I wanna buy this AC Gilbert 0-6-0 engine number 433. What smoke fluid can I use on the smoke unit?

Any smoke fluid will do. I bought some MTH fluid that works well, plus it smells like apple pie.

LOL! Ok Nelson. Is there a way to tune up the smoke unit so it puts more smoke out? I'm not ordering from RFG Co. anymore!

RFG doesn't really have any parts for HO. The heating element in AF HO is very different from the S scale ones (which are just turns of heater wire around a fiberglass wick), as it looks like a wire-wound resistor. It isn't easy to open the smoke unit and seal it back up, even if you did have a replacement.
Is there a problem with yours? The HO units usually smoke very well.

OK. Just saw one on eBay and wrongly listed as Mantua. I messaged him and the seller has no way of testing the engine at all. Its at $50 buy it now on eBay.

Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110810313342&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
Looks like something from the side rods is missing and he said front tender wheels are present.

You mean he still has the tender wheels? Because they're definitely not in the truck. The side rods and valve gear look fine. It's a little pricey for my taste. I paid $25 for a later 5 digit version with unsprung trucks. I wouldn't go over $40 for one of these.
These things smoke more than you'll want them to. The smoke units in the Chattanoogas are a joke by comparison.
Here's an old shot of my 443 Hudson.

One other thing: it's a safe bet that the springs are missing from the tender trucks. Definitely not worth that price.

* Justin ; Did you get it ? That locomotive isn't just a HO engine. It is made in America. Mostly made in the 1950's with the exception of #155, in the 1940s. That is the original, the first. If your front pilot is good, with undamaged steps and marker lights mounted. Also your smokebox front there ( many are missing ). They fit loose and fall off on many locos. With overall not dented or banged up chances are everything works. These engines weren't made in China or Hong Kong. that were made to last. Very, very few had bad castings. * Last time I bought some was at Allentown at a first frost show. There was a tray with lots of parts in it. Being sold by a Lionel dealer. If anything unscrewed, it was. I looked for the main parts everything was there. I had gotten the tray for their asking price. A few parts were missing. Like yours, trucks. I did get a 443, 155, and 31031 out of that box which I have now. They are all working now. Basically put together from what was in that tray. * That train was built so well many are here today. You can never say that for the P2000. Heritage, Broadway limited and other new stuff made today. They won't be here in 70 years and working like the Gilbert trains are. 80 years from now, these same Gilbert trains will most likely be still here and running. frank

This will be my second AC Gilbert engine and first one to smoke! I have a #31031 0-6-0 and runs super smooth and pulls well. Paid $25 because the very front axle was locked up and the tender needed a reconnection.
