Hi everyone, I need some one to tell me what the tyco trolly that was battery operated and still in the box might be worth. also The tyco shark nose metal passenger set. Engine and 3 cars in the orginal boxes might be worth. It has the same paint scheem as the pictures i've seen on this site and and is lettered for "Santa Fe" It is not an authentic SANTA FE paint Scheem. However I don't know what tyco did back in the 50's. The reason I need to know this info is an ederly freind of mine has these trains and he wants to sell them and he has no idea what they are worth. They are in good condition. Jim6300loco

Jim6300loco: Your friend's passenger set is probably a T5-2, ('56-'57). Are the cars marked as "Sante Fe" or "Streamline"? Are the boxes the lidded white and green "Tyco Little Trains" boxes or blue boxes? Price would be dependent to a certain effect by these things but primarily condition. How would you rate same? The trolley may be the "Old Strap Hanger." Is it boxed? The value here is dependent on condition of packaging, trolley, presence of street track and condition of battery tube (a key component.) With some of these questions answered a ballpark estimate could be arrived at. Check eBay for comparables as well but the occurence of these early Tycos there is rather infrequent. Good Luck! Magnolia academy, Hi! the train set is stream lined and marked Santa Fe. they are in the blue boxes. the trolly and the tubes are in the box and are like new. the street track is out of the box but is avaliable(needs to be removed from the platform) Does this help? I did look on ebay but I didn't find any of the same. Jim6300loco

JIM6300LOCO: Certainly have described a Tyco T5-2 from 1957. Assuming top condition and good boxes (with inserts and too bad you don't have the master box) a fair price would be in the $100-$125 range. These sets were about half that price in 1957: very expensive/ very high quality. A boxed strap hanger set, based on eBay prices alone and, again, assuming top condition item and packaging with paper work might be worth even more. I watched with more than a little amazement last year as excellent boxed strap hanger sets topped $150.00. At any reasonably well-advertised and attended TCA or TTOS show with set would, in my experience, be on dealer tables for slightly higher prices than those I've just quoted. It is all a matter of availability and demand. Seems the Strap Hanger trolley's demand exceeds availability while the T5-2, originally much more expensive, has fewer fans. In any event, ALL fifties TYCO products are high quality, of relatively limited availibility and are, therefore, desireable. Trust this has helped. Magnolia Academy

Concerning the Shark nose train set and the trolly set. Today I purchased the two sets from this elderly friend. I brought them home and after a little wheel cleaning and lubrication they both run great! I'm actually impressed with the shark nose and the three passenger coaches. The coaches look as if they were modeled after Budd built equipment. The observation car would especially make a great model observation for the Reading Railroads " Crusader" That real train was built by Budd company in the 1930's. In any event I'm having a fun time with this purchase.
