I got this in the mix of boxes. Pennsylvania loco. It was in a Athearn box but cant hold true if that is what it is. It has a motor in each truck,A huge weight in it and its long. There is no markings on this as to what it is. It runs but needs cosmedic work, has metal hand railings. Any help will be grateful. Sorry if pics are bad as I am still using a crappy camera.

This body-form is actually a "hoped for" model DD40 which Athearn jumped onto.

EMD never made one.

The DD35 & DD35A's are/were two GP35's housed on one frame. The round top "fan" shrouds have a smaller mid fan on each end set plus housing for steam generators likewise.

To date this particular "DD40", could you get a shot of the model with the shell removed?
The first issue of these models have an oblong-shaped motor housing as well as "black" truck-side-frames.
These models pull a good number of cars... 25-40 each.
The "dual motored" models also pull quite a bit of power from power-packs/transformers.

Newer models have the gold/bronze motor housing, fuel tanks match the body colors and silver truck-side frames.

The axles have quite a "play" for this locomotive to negotiate 18" radius curves.

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

RB, even a cheap camera should have a closeup mode so your photos won't be focused on the wall. A little flower icon appear in your viewfinder when it's on. You may have to toggle through a few modes to get it.

Here are the original Athearn DD-40's from 2 different times. The original early one with blue colored motors. In the Last run of them I have one I haven't put the handrails on yet. And last you see the box lable for the newer one. Check you pennsylvania's. The lettering. Are they decals? For I have only seen them as you see them here. With only keystone heralds.

These are my favorite diesel locomotives in HO. Currently have an UP, EMD Demonstrator, B&O and in the rebuild process a PRR. Still looking for the Burlington and the SP.

The lettering on yours is not original. Look nice though. On the PRR one only the harold was displayed. When running well these can pull a large number of cars. They will go through 18r turns. Removing the metal bar inside and soldering wire in greatly improves performance. Check that the axle gears are not cracked. I have found this to be a common issue when rebuilding blue box locos.

Some cameras have a macro mode (there's a a little flower symbol on it), when you choose it you can make small detail photos with out making the photos blurry. I often use it for my serenataflowers review ( http://www.serenataflowers.com/chocolate-gifts ), because I need all small details in this case :) I hope this helps!
I really like this model. It must be great to own it!
