I thought I'd throw up another kitbash project on here. I put this one together real quickly.

I was inspired by the campbells quincy fuel oil dock posted by catfordken back in December.

I dropped in at a train show with a friend this past weekend and I found a cheap Life-Like 40" Texaco tanker. I paid $2.00.

I wasn't sure what to mount it up on until my friend dug though a half-price bin under one of the tables and scrounged up an IHC Cheyenne 650 Ton Coal bunker.
http://www.thewhistlepost.com/forums/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/5463/size/big/cat/

It was just a pile of parts, not bagged, not boxed, not priced. I lowballed the guy an offer of $1 and he acted all insulted. Let the bargaining begin! I shrugged and offered $2 pointing out that it was missing parts. He asked for $3 and I agreed. The real bummer is that it really is missing parts. It is missing all of the stairs and fine details. I could have used those on this and other projects.

I cut the legs of the coal bunker long sides and shortened them lengthwise as well. I then used the legs to create bracing beams on the ends.

For the tanker I simply popped off the trucks and kept everything else. The fuel line coming off the top is copper electrical wire.

Assembly was very fast. I spent more time painting and weathering than assembling.

All told I paid $5 though I still have enough of the coal bunker left for several more projects!

I can shoot some more photos to show details later. I need to do something with the fuel line on the right hand side. Currently it just ends. I'm thinking I might make a little shed that it goes into and then that would be where the crew gets smaller hoses to fill the engines.

Wow... I really like how that looks, though to me that base could probably support a lot more weight. You should put a triple-dome or fatboy tanker up there.... or maybe a pair of the standard ones?

Great job though. The red color really makes that look convincingly like industrial-grade scaffolding.

Yeah, I purposefully went with one of the smaller tanks. I could support a lot more weight though, you're right!

Okay, here's some more photos. I did a little more work. I wanted that pipe off the top to go somewhere and I was picturing a little shed. I dug though my kitbashing supplies and found pieces from my old plasticville ranch house.

The garage door seemed like just the thing for the front of the shed. I carefully cut it off and then scratch built the other walls and roof from styrene sheeting.

Here is a shot of the scratch built/kitbashed building.

Here's a close up of the tank with the weathering.

This is just an overhead shot. (you can see not all of my yard track has been laid.)

Here is the back side view with the engine maintenance facility in the background.
