im looking at buying another ho steamer and i found this ahm 0-4-0 booster, i'd like to know what the mechanics behind these engines, are the ahm versions the same as mantuas? what are your opinions?

note this isn't the one on ebay but its the same

They have a pancake motor. Nothing like a Mantua. Shaygetz managed to remotor it with a CD-Rom motor.

Always did like that picture...



That's actually a Lima model...from a mold that has traveled many a mile, starting out at Mantua in 1951...



I remotored the one in the pic like so....





You can see that it came with a pancake motor that...alas...run as well as it looks...a 3 pole motor like that with a plastic ring magnet to boot?

I have one very similar to this--looks like Mantua all the way on the outside. Mine is actually made by Lima--I'm guessing the same loco made it's way around to AHM, etc. The Lima version actually runs pretty well.

Well good to Know it's a good runner but il get a mantua 0-6-0 shifter w/tender I have a really nice ahm/rivarossi 0-6-0T but I like mantuas better
