Hi Guys:
Does anyone know if the Tyco 430 ever used the Mantua MU-2 Powertruck?
Thanks, Gareth

Sure did! From the time of its into in the early/mid 60's, up until about 1975. I have a few examples so equipped.
You can sometimes spot an MU-2 drive 430 in a picture, if the lug under the cab window is clearly silver. A PT-drive would have a larger, black lug.

Hi GIC:
I understand the MU-2 powertrucks will snap into the later Tyco shells? I also saw something Tony wrote about height differences? What can you tell me?

Try this topic, I think I covered most of it there:

I should maybe revisit that and clean it up, like the 630 and piggy stuff, etc. That was one of my first. Hope it helps.
EDIT - As a further addendum, that I have not investigated - you probably COULD get a MU-2 drive in the PT shell, with less effort than required to put a PT in a MU-2 shell (although why you would ever want to do the latter is beyond me).
If you do just swap the drives, remember that the shell-to-truck clearances will be out of whack because the holes are not in the same place.

Hey GIC:
Is there a source for the MU-2 drive if such a conversion tests out as workable?

I just got a Mantua PC C430, W/ MU-2 power that looks great but won't run though it did go about 3 inhches. The armature turns rough, could this be the brushes, which look worn but not shot? I have cleaned commutator. I'd like to add another MU-2 to a C 430 sometime.

The difference in height is slight. you can remove the rear spring from truck to help level as this is what i did. I did a post on this also in this listing under motive power- got to motive power and scroll down to mu power truck swap. Brian
