I recently inherited The Rock Island Line electric train set. I do not have the set with me at this time and cannot remember how many pieces are in it thus the reason for not knowing if it was from 76 or 77. The set is still in the original package and has never been opened. Does anyone have any information on this set? How much it may have cost orignally and if it is something of value today? I would appreciate any info.

Hi Karen-Brian here. I have a 1978 tyco catalog with the rock island train set listed in it. It is listed as Rock Island Line 101 piece set and has the following: powerful alco 430 loco with operating headlight - deluxe autoloader car with 6 automobiles - 50' boxcar - hopper car - gondola with pipe load - cattle truck - caboose - 24 sign and telephone poles - 26 sections of track including a curved rerailer for a big 40" X 70" figure 8 over & under track layout - 33 piece bridge and trestle set - U.L. listed power pack. If you need a photo - i can scan and send to you. Price is not listed but would probably retailed at that time between $39.99-$69.99. Someone else may have a more exact price. I have 74-75 tyco catalog and set is not listed in it.
