I'm completely new to this whole thing. I signed up just to post this. I am in Pittsburgh, PA, I recently found a TON of train sets in my paps basement UNOPENED (ex Spirit of America) all there, some are still in plastic wrap. I would like to sell them, I'm just starting to do the research on them. If there are any interested buyers please email me with a price. THERE ARE SEVERAL BOXES! Some include a complete Steeler village.

I don't want to take anything out of the boxes, but here's the mess on my floor and this isn't even all of it. There's trains, villages, tracks, you name it, its here. If someone wanted the whole lot for a lump price that works too. That way they could take what they want and resell the rest? I don't know where to begin with sorting it out, I don't know what goes together (unless its packaged together).

Well, you really need to first make a LIST of everything there. You say you have LOTS of sets, but that can be from 2-4 sets, or 20, which is it? First , set these priorities to listing items :

1 - Sets, complete - would bring the most money, worth the most, need NAMES of the sets, ie Santa Fe Express, etc. and any part/set number listed on the box.

2 - Buildings, accessories - special ones bring good money, others not. List them by Maker/Description ( Tyco McDonalds, a very good money maker )

3 - Engines - again, special road names are worth more than say UP or Santa Fe, which are dirt common. Say Boxed or Loose, if they are not in a box.

4 - Rolling stock - some are common, others are very rare, so would depend.

Track, probably brass, is not worth dirt, with maybe some exceptions. Same for any detailing material like trees, lichen, etc, you can get better quality ones new, I doubt anyone collects those boxes just for the boxes. So I'd list all the major TRAIN items, ie sets, buildings, and engines and rolling stock, in that order, to give a fairly complete idea of what you have there, and put the other stuff aside for now. Otherwise no one knows what to offer you, and it'd just be shooting in the dark. You need to list the collection as completely as possible, WITH road name details for train items, to get the most out of this deal. The Bicentennial steam set is a start, as to being identified. Keep it going!

go figure... picture #64... My posted picture of trucks (Duel thread)...

Coincidence to stumble upon an answer of origin within 30 minutes of the picture I took and seeing one in this set of pictures.

I'm impressed!

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Hi, JLFSCP,

Wow, that's a ton of buildings, mostly in sealed boxes. Should attract some interest. Really nice job on the photos, by the way.

I like the sets and rolling stock, but I don't have room for all of those structures. Maybe someone wants to split the collection? So far, I haven't worked up an offer. I'll have to think about it. I'm really in the dark about market prices for the kits. Who knows, we'll see what other comments you get.

I'm nearby in Pittsburgh (South Hills). I could manage a pickup, if we put something together. Meanwhile, thanks for posting the pics. Always fun to see!
