Yes, Ken, They did. Probably their most notable run was in Louisiana/Arkansas. At one point they wanted to discontinue the run, but one of the states (Louisiana, maybe?) wouldn't approve it, so for a while it just basically ran to the border, serving almost nobody! It definitely matches your new F-units nicely. I believe in later years, one or two of those units were turned into weed-spraying outfits (and painted green). Chris

Kenny ; Again yes it is real. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (CRI&P RR) (reporting marks RI, Rock Island) .As to gas electrics. It was the cheepest way to run a passenger train. Is that a direct prototype for the RI. I dont know. I am certain they ran doodlebugs.

Yes, those colors are real on a doodle bug... like painting racing stripes on a turtle!
The colors matched their financial condition. Black... Yellow... Red... and, the Blues... so much so, that even their oldest rolling stock, them old wooden M.O.W. cars got the "Dress-Blues" paint job. But they were painted heavy.

Might as well make the most out of any pennies you had left in the piggy bank, since that was how much money they had left... Bankrupt! It was a pretty blue.

John

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

The rock, as far as I know, only painted one or two doodlebugs in that scheme. Not sure, but I think so. At least one of which I'm sure. So yes, it's absolutely prototypical.
