I have done something I never thought I would do but I've given three pieces of my Tyco collection as a Christmas gift to my nephew who loves model trains.
He will receive two Tyco covered hoppers in very nice condition. One is the Old Dutch Cleaner which isn't real exciting. The other is the Maxwell House hopper which is my favorite of them all. He also will get a boxed Union Pacific semi & trailer as I have 11 of these.
So, is Tyco a worthy Christmas gift??

As someone who believe's in frugality I think it's a great gift AND it teaches some sense as well.
Mind you, HellMart may go all Post-Partum Deprssive on you since you've weaned yourself from her prematurely, and by that I mean, before shuffling off this mortal coil!

Well, number one, it's a great gift overall. Nothing wrong with giving trains! However, temper your gauzy image of his happiness , and by that I mean that receiving a Dutch cleanser and Maxwell house coffee car may do absolutely NOTHING for him. While trains in general are great, giving him YOUR favorites may end up in a let-down for you if he is not overjoyed by their appeal, or lack of it to him. I certainly had my own tastes in what I wanted for train cars as a child, getting something that had nothing to do with my interests wasn't exactly thrilling. Simply saying, you may love them, he may not. he may be grateful to get anything at all trainwise, but kids have their own opinions. Unless he expressed interest in those cars personally, I would advise not to get offended if he isn't overjoyed with those billboards. Just saying. What kid even knows what they are? The coffee probably. Anyway, I think it's a great idea to give trains, just don't expect him to fall all over with excitement for something you really like. His tastes could be way different.

Ah, well, then that's different. LOL. He may well appreciate the offering, compared to a younger lad. Hope he enjoys receiving them as much as you seem to enjoy gifting them!

Well, the Tyco hoppers & truck went over very well tonight when given to Jared! His mother (my sister) had also found him one Tyco & one AHM engine, in their boxes. He had bought himself an "army" train set on ebay & it showed up yesterday... So Jared's Christmas was rollin' on the rails this year!!
I again, mentioned the forum to him and asked him to check it out...

Good news! Glad they were well-received. Hope he checks out the Tyco Forum as well. Good tidings indeed...
