Did the Silver Streak and Golden Eagle ever come with handrails or is there another company that made them?

Hi Chris, my uneducated guess would be that I believe all Tyco engines come with handrails of some sort. Brian can awnser this question with his total knowledge of Tyco's Siver & Gold trains!

Thanks guys, every picture I can find shows no handrails. I want both engines but I want handrails. Even Brians pictures show no handrails but other pictures poasted by others show painted haidrails.

The only diesel not to recieve the handrail treatment was the F-9's and RF-16/Shark Nose. The handrails came as a kit in a bag included with the engine. Its just plain metal.

Justin Nailed Smack on the nose! The Kit was avalible seprately. Get some in good shape, and prowl on ebay till you find a clunker that has handrails. Or you can bend them your self!

Your best bet to find one with handrails would be too look for one that was sold in the separate-sale (larger boxes with the white section up top) as opposed to the plain brown boxes that trainset locos came in.
It may be a matter of the thousands sold and given to uninterested kids, but I rarely ever see these engines with handrails. The same goes for the Rock Island 430 (another ubiquitous set loco) and other models. I'm not sure they were always included. Tyco changed the handrails to plastic on all their engines *except* the 430, and I do know that by the mid-80's they definitely were NOT including 430 handrails anymore. I don't think the Golden Eagle was made when the 630 was upgraded to plastic handrails either, but I may be wrong.
Long story short - your best best is good old stock in original tri-color boxes. Set refugees are a crapshoot.

i'm about 99% sure that the golden eagle super 630 never came with handrails. i don't think the silver streak c430's ever did either.

Hi - i have purchased new old stock Silver streaks and Golden Eagles with and with out hand rails in boxes. On the Silver Streaks - I am going to say the majority came with out handrails and all train sets in Silver Streak did not come with handrails to my knowledge. The Golden Eagle was only produced for one year = 1980. The train sets did not have Handrails with engine and NO Golden Eagle was ever made with plastic handrails. There were some Golden Eagle locomotives that did come with metal handrail sets as i have a few new in box with them and then there were some i have new that don't have them - crap shoot.

Smokie, if you have black handrails you can paint them gold. Go to your local craft store and ask for Krylon 18ct gold marker. All you need to do is put some on paper and you can brush it on whatever you like. it worked for me on my gold General. Ken

I put a set of black plastic ones on my golden eagle that I run. I liked how it looked at first, but soon I took them off. It just blocked the lettering on the side of the engine too much, not to mention the eagle on the front. However I think the metal ones would be alright since they aren't so bold in appearance and wouldn't block the view of the sides and front so much.

This ebay listing currently shows the type of separate-sale item & box I am talking about:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TYCO-HO-SCALE-ALCO-SUPER-630-DIESEL-w-HEADLIGHT-GOLDEN-EAGLE-NO-250-51-/220915693676?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item336f99f86c
However, oddly enough somone else already asked and handrails were not included. It is possible that they may have been removed for use on another unit. However, *IF* they were ever included, and *IF* you are to find one, *THAT* is the type of boxed item to look for. I wouldn't hold my breath though. You are probably better off buying a junker loco that has the handrails, and swapping them over.

Here's what the GE looks like with custom handrails using Athearn and some Tyco stanchions.

Alcofan, the C-630 and C-430 are Alco made engines, NOT GE!

Great info guys, thanks. Alco Fan your GE looks great with handrails, thats just what I want. My search will start at the Springfield show in Mass at the end of Jan unless someone here has extra handrails they want to part with.
