Well, having missed the Greenberg show last weekend, and Timonium the weeks before, I definitely wanted to make the smaller shows local to me this weekend. I worked my OT during the weeknights, and had my weekend free to pursue some HO deals.
I hit the Kena Shriner show first, near Tyson's Corner, VA. There, I walked the small but usually bargain-filled showplace in the temple. One guy had a 25 cent box, 1 $ box, 5 $ box, and 10 $ box. I hit the quarter and $1 box first, then moved on. GOt some bits and pieces of Lionel and HO pieces for some projects. Next I hit a diecast box next table over, and bought 11 pieces, some HO useable, others I just wanted. Moving on, I found a Gilbert HO set , guy wanted $30 for it, had Athearn F7 engine, a rare Gilbert Tie Ejector car, a Bayola caboose, and a few other items, misc. track and transformer. The tie ejector car alone brings over $25 on Ebay, so I bought the whole set. The bayola caboose is another rare car by Gilbert, those also bring $20 or more. Down the line, found a Tyco New Haven F7 and 3 passenger cars, plus a few misc cars, I paid $25 for all of it. Picked up some more misc. diecast cars, Lionel pieces, and other HO items. Not a bad start to the morning! I went by the bargain box guy again, and another buyer had a metal GG1 casting in his hand, I commented on it, he said did I want it? he was selling ALL his train stuff. I said yes, so he handed it to me to buy, he said he didn't need another dust collector. From the $5 box, it joined a Lionel Rail cleaner chassis in my bag before I left. Yay! Left after about an hour, and headed south 50 miles to the next show, the Rappahanock Model Railroad Club's Armory show in Fredericksburg, VA, although they moved it to an Eagle club. Luckily their signage along the route was fantastic, I found it with no problem. Went in about 12 noon, and spent an hour browsing the tables. Found numerous HO items to buy, engines and rolling stock deals galore. Left that show with some good deals, items I'd been looking for, and some others I wasn't. Found some rare Playart HO track, cream colored plastic ballast snap-together track. Since I collect Playart, I decided it was worth the 50 cents apiece sale price. Can't make a full circle, only had enough curved to do a half-circle. Will work for a display, anyway. After my bag was bulging, and I payed out my last $9 for some more track, I headed a few miles away to visit some friends I hadn't seen in quite awhile. While there, I checked out their Ebay box, and on top was a plastic wall train, a 4-4-0 Philadelphia, they hadn't put up for sale yet. Asked how much, they said Take it. Thrift store buy. Nice! Hey, Microbusss, I finally got one of those wall trains! Overall, I spent my budget limit of about $200, but got some nice vintage engines and rolling stock to show for it. I'm happy, will be posting items on Sunday.
