Hard to tell by the pic, but it could be a re-number by previous owner. Is it a decal? Is there evidence of a previous number/discolored plastic, etc?

CatfordKen is definitely the man with many answers--and probably a pic to boot! One thing I learned this week that I never noticed or thought about before is that the way to tell a metal-boiler shifter from plastic (besides the obvious) is that the metals have two domes, the plastic have 3.
