This topic has only been touched on here, It would be nice to get some info and photos of Roundhouse/MDC. Steam engines here. I have some to put here. Like always not everything.
* First one is Of the second type. This one has a plasitc loco and tender body. The frames for both are die cast metal. The drive has reduction gearing. It is of the Pennsylvania Type. A model of a G class, tenwheeler locomotive, 4-6-0.

Here are a couple of mine:

I forgot this custom 0-6-2T when I first posted this:

This last pic is an old picture of my stash. I have since added a few more and sold a couple. I have a five gallon bin full of boxcabs, climaxes & shays.

MDC is something I collect the fewest of, but I really like the 0-6-0's.

I agree Frank;

The MDC/RH Steamers don't get enough attention. I have four unbuilt cast metal 0-6-0 Switchers w Tender. a 0-6-0 Yardhog with Plastic boiler cab + a cast metal boiler/cab as well, a Harriman Consolie with Cast metal boiler and an uncommon Santa Fe Style 2-6-2 Prairie Boiler also cast metal. The Consolie has some kind of high end motor in it a Mashima or Mashimi....

I'll get pics....

2-8-0 old timer modified with a bachmann vandy...when she's done she'll make a good representation of Tonopah & Tidewater #7

Ray ; if you look a couple of posts back you'll see Thomas's (Redwood's) 4-6-0 has a small Vanderbuilt tender also. MDC offered it. I have no idea why MDC droped their midsized Steam engine line. The old time 2-6-0 and 2-8-0 Are about the same quality. These engines were made so you could add detailes and make your own style of locomotive. To bad they never made a large locomotive.

* A MDC Harriman 2-8-0 with vanderbuilt tender. I got it yesterday and up to 1:00 Pm it looked like this.

* I cleaned it up a little and striped and repainted the frame. I gave the body some dulcoate and it didn't come as good as expected.

Still another. NYCRR Harriman, 4-6-0, #817.

Going back a few posts on the topic of different types of tenders here the Mantua tenders do lend to a uniform appearance of the NYCRR.

There's something to be said for a locomotive kit that inspired (required?) the writing of a book to build it...I don't know of any other kit that has such an honor.

I have three of their kits waiting for assembly, a 4-4-0 and two 2-6-0s--one early/one late with flywheel...

The motor of the later version appears better made, though the flywheel is a tiny thing less than a half inch long and round. I'm inclined to believe the older motor could take a load better, I'll be testing the difference and posting results later. Other than that the two kits are identical, the one is from the 70s with the original price of $37.97 on the label, the other much more recent.

Well my 2-8-0 kit hasn't arrived yet, but from the photo I can see the frame is flat unlike my mdc 0-6-0T the is angled in the back for the motor like you said. So will my 2-8-0 have the newer motor? I assume so.

They appear to be made much like the old Mantua locos, sharing common motors, boilers, cabs and tenders...the only difference is the layout of the frame. Even the detail sprue is identical in all my kits. It'll help the family look between locos but I was still a little disappointed.

A couple Roundhouse locos that roam the Redwoods and Pacific:

RPRR's own #11, a recent vintage RTR 2-8-0. It's a smooth runner.

NWP #179, a kit built 4-6-0. The supplied drivers don't run true, so this loco has a serious wobble. I plan to exchange them for Mantua 4-6-0 drivers.

Who says i care about time periods? I'm one of the most laid back model railroaders out there! I dont follow any particular time period or roadname or location. Its all apart of my tourist railroad operation that more coresponds with my SCVR. I have old time locomotives running with more modern steamers. I dont model any of the things mentioned above because that kills the fun. The only thing i stick to is focusing on steam more then diesel being my diesel fleet is large as is. i've doubleheaded a climax and my roundhouse 2-6-0! That shows what I enjoy doing
