Hello All--One of my favorite locos is the NYC 4-6-4 Hudson. I want to ask you all for recommendations of finding one in HO scale (hopefully not at the 'brass' price level!). Who has made them in HO? Do you have a pic of your own to share? I'm looking for a reasonably close model, rather than just say a Mantua with a 4-6-4 arrangement. Thanks!

Rivarossi is a spot on model but rather pricey for what it is and it's age/year production runs. Mantua's Hudson is rather rare. Marx and Ac Gilbert's Hudson lack some major details but have smoke and have that nostalogic coolness!

I just ran across a website called "The Guide to HO Steam Locomotives". Just Google that to find the address. It seems to have a lot of information, although I don't see too much on Hudsons, but it may be interesting reading to some folks here.

The 2nd run BLI Hudson is the best. Trainworld had them for $130 with DCC & sound (DC compatible) for a long time, but the stock was exhausted about two years ago. It was the best deal in HO. I don't know what they are currently going for.

Mine , I have 2, are from the early releases. first or second. dont know. They were low priced then. I got mine by way of a dealer , hobby shop owner, that sold them to a friend then to me. There are no electronics in mine. proably striped to go in other engines. Neither ran when I got them. I have to do a little rewireing once I knew they would run. Just a few,2, spots needed a drop of solder to short out some connector pins.
* As to how I like them. They look nice and run good.

I was actually thinking about kitbashing a couple of my Mantuas, and putting a Mikado boiler on a Pacific Chassis, and adding the 4-wheel trailing truck from a Berkshire to make a plausible Hudson. That American Flyer(Gilbert) looks like a solid metal beast though!
