Mid-America Train and Toy Show
Sunday, November 27, 2011

This is what I'll be doing tomorrow morning:

http://www.midamericatrainandtoyshow.com/

It's a nice little show with a variety of items and usually a few operating displays. I've got my best deals there.

I've never seen one of those ever, period. If they have one, it's mine.

Usually they have a lot of low quality common Tyco stuff, and when they do have a few "gems" I snatch them up for myself.

No turbo trains, but I actually did see some red box items. I didn't have a lot of cash, so I stuck to what I like best: cheap locomotives. For $3 each I got an AHM GP-18, an AHM center cab switcher, a Tyco GP-20, plus Thomas the Tank engine with Annie and Clarabel in HO. I didn't bother to test any of it, but to my surprise it all runs really well. I also picked up some rolling stock. I'll roll out pictures over the coming weeks.

In the non-HO world, I scored a Lionel 6475 vat car, Libby's Crushed Pineapple version. I wasn't planning to buy any Lionel, but I'd never seen one at a show. I think they used to be hard to find, so for only $15 I couldn't pass it up. I've learned to buy it when I see it if I can.

First pic, just for you, is in LOTW.

I scored a girder bridge a couple months ago at a garage sale. I noticed an old milk crate with a Plasticville (O scale) station sticking out of it. On further inspection, there was also a Lionel girder bridge and a Plasticville yard tower. To top it off, there was a complete vintage Marx Fort Apache playset. If I ever get around to it, I'm going to put the fort on ebay. I saw one go for $70. I only pair $2 for the whole box.

As for the show today, it was very well attended and I thought there was a nice variety of high and low end items, mostly Lionel and various HO. Next show is in March. GTE is coming through in February, but last time I went to it I was rather disappointed.

Actually I'd say he's hanging around by the bridge, but yes, that's him. King Kong is climbing the church steeple, the mummy is snoozing in a gondola, and Dracula is attacking railroad workers. Frankenstein's monster is still in the lab somewhere.
