I wanna take a Mantua 2-8-2 and make into a believable Decapod 2-10-0. I would buy a another Mike frame and use one set of drivers and extend the frame. Is the boiler the same diameter the whole lenght and what could I use to hold in it's added section for more length?

Ask Ben:

To go through some of the old batch of MR's he bought and look for construction articles. What you're contemplating was at one time the norm and all fathers did this with their sons. Now Fathers barely teach their kids anything because they know very little to pass on. The world of WinDOZE, automatic (old lady) Tranny's and smart apps! Yeehaw!

Several of the larger Mantua shared the same boilers and many other parts. I know that the 4-6-2, 2-8-2 and 2-8-4 all have the same boiler. The frame is slightly different. I do remember reading that the Mantua decopod that they made suffered from them placing the gear for the motor in the same place as the Berks. This caused there to be to much distance between the front where the power was and the last set of drivers.

Right so go through what you have and talk to Justin. May be something in there he can use.
