Last night while at Dollar Tree, I noticed some book lights that looked very turbine-ish, and thought Hey, it's got a ball joint, just like theTyco Transformers radar antenna assembly on the Hustler engine, So I bought one, silver to match the Tyco, and brought it home. the ball joint on the Hustler is WAY smaller, but with some dremel work, I could make it fit. This morning, I found a few minutes time to fit in the custom work,so I trimmed the ball down to about roughly the same size. Fits! Here's a few pics of it. Looks like something out of War of the Worlds Part 3. LOL. Anyway, now I need to get the engine running.

Looks scary, like that Angular fish from the murky dark depths that lures unsuspecting prey to them with their head-mounted light, then snaps them up. Just a weird custom I decided to do on the spur of the day. Don't forget to leave your comments before exiting my Post!

Ya know, Ken, you're right...it'll never fit thru the tunnels on my club's layout. I gotta lower the neck on this thing. Where's my mini-hacksaw at?

Well, since Ken was RIGHT, I decided to cut the stalk down to lower the light, er, turbine, uh, Destruct-O-Ray. Anyway, cut it down half-way, made the darn ball for the socket too small, then cut it all the way except for a minimal post, trimmed it to fit, then drilled and tapped the nub for a 2-56 screw. Here's the finished product. Lowered, lighted, and lovely! LOL

I'll have to review the height standards for Modular heights, as some people have tunnels and such. Or just test-fit it at my train club layout. Should fit through the modules if it fits thru these tunnels, I'd hope. Anyway, other than getting the chassis to run, I think I'm done fiddling with the upgrade.

Ha ha! Reminds me of that experiment the NYC did where they mounted a jet engine to the roof of an RDC with a special "aero" shovelnose... IIRC the speed record of 180-ish mph still stands.
ahh, here it is:

Ya know, I was even thinking about that with this diesel, about making a similar aero-nose for it, and have the first jet-powered 44-tonner. Heck the Hustlers would run super-quick anyway, why not use it to advantage and put a jet motor to simulate the high-speed of it being jet powered. Maybe I'll nickname it Mach .44, , that's about 300 MPH. I just found a magazine called Mainline Modeler at the local train show this weekend, which had numerous pictures of that jet-powered RDC, and one guy's modeling it in HO. He gave a list of what parts he used to make it, too. Pretty cool.

Very nice! I'm always looking for stuff when I'm out with the family shopping--anything small that will take a coat of paint. Great job.
