Here are three custom painted tribute Alcos in vhtf paint schemes that I have attempted over the last two years. All are MU2 powered. The Big Sky will not have it's hand rails painted. I have just recently read where cars made to look like rarer autos during restoration are called "tributes" and is why I'm using that term here.
I'd appreciate getting some feedback on these customs.

AF, best compliment I can pay you is they look,
OEM!
If you hadn't posted the two on the right before, I would have assumed they all had Hong Kong passports.

Thank you gents.
I was beginning to think these models had missed the mark by a lot.

These started out as primered over Alco shells. I didn't strip the oe paint. The order of completion was Canadiana, QSR then Big Sky. This was not planned but amounts for a two year time span. The Canadiana decals were copied off a Canadiana boxcar onto decal paper. They required a little bit of touching up on the computer using MS Paint. The red maple leafs were stencils and the white ones were cut out of self stick labels. The QSR decal was drawn and hand painted while the cab decals were computer generated and printed on decal paper. The big sky decals were hand drwn then painted on decal paper because I didn't want to wait to order them. I haven't had any luck trying to but the originals but I'm having fun with these.

Know what AF, "Ant-man" might just be onto something there?
In Canada you could call it a sole-proprietership and deduct hobby supplies and operate at a loss for up to 7 years, reduce your taxes!

Gentlemen, Thank you for the kind words and glad you enjoyed them. GIC your examples helped a lot and were inspiration especially for the GN and the QSR. Thanks.

Alco Fan You Have In Spired Me To Make A SO76 POTUS Because I Have One And It Needs A Companion. If You Tell me What Colors You Used And How You Did It I May make A 4302 GN Big Sky. Something About The Scheme Makes Me Feel Happy When I Look At It.
Can You Paint My GP20 In Big Sky Blue?

I think the GP20 in Big Sky scheme would be really neat but I'm not sure I could do it now. The Big Sky colors are the Model Master Grabber blue, Krylon smoke gray and Krylon gloss white. Plus a primer over the non stripped original paint and a clear last. I did have some problems with paint compatibility because of the Acrylic Krylon over enamel primer and the enamel blue with the acrylic white. I primered the shell first, then gave it a coat of white. I masked the lines after estimating the thickness and cutting the tape then masked the bottom and painted the gray on top with gray. After that dried for days I masked the top off and used the grabber blue to do the bottom. I had sprayed the clear over the stripe before using other colors but parts of the line didn't have a real sharp edge. I also adjusted the masking of the stripe cause it was slightly off with out repainting the whole thing. I made a template where the stipe converge on the nose and trimed the tape to match. I actually painte the steps and "tank flaps" and front and back porches by hand. I hand drew the herald decals and road numbers several times on clear decal paper and painted them white by hand The SO76 also a neat idea. I'm not sure what colors I'd use for that. I painted these cause I wasn't fast enough to buy one on ebay.

Lately I don't take the time to strip the old paint. I wash it off and sometimes rough it up with sand paper to help the paint stick then primer. Good Building:)

Which Rock Scheme? The Black/Red with the wings on the nose?
Anything but the Sunkist version!

Dudes, The light blue and white Rock Island scheme has been considered so as to run with Tyco's red and yellow scheme. Not so crazy.

You know the Rock Island Tyco Shark Orange and Yellow scheme. I call that the "Sunkist" scheme. Or Fisher-Price scheme.....
