I have'nt posted in awhile and finally got around to unpacking a lot of boxes that were in storage. I found this old gem and after opening the kit I really gained a lot of respectfor the "old-timers" in this hobby. This kit is such a work of art not to mention a headache in the makings. We should all be fortunate to have the RTR lines that are preassembled in todays industry and not take it for granted.

My COTW is a finished? kit, a Walthers Oscar shorty passenger car. Needs some TLC, the roofline needs fixing, one side it bent out some. But it was fairly cheap at a train show, so I got it anyway.

I'm thinking of painting it red, white, and blue ( ok, just add some white, do the roof in black, white above the windows. ) INterior is done already, so a little clean-up of the outside should work wonders for this model. I see Walthers has/had redone these in plastic, found them at their website, but said they were sold out. Judging by the prices these things go for on Ebay, they're really popular, at least the original kits, and the new plastic versions too, apparently.

@ catfordken; Now you see what I mean about being a "headache" trying to assemble one of these.
@Shaygetz; Did you build this kit yourself? Thats a very nice caboose indeed! I love it.

AMC, I had the "Piker" companion to that car, I traded it to a forum member a couple years back. Interesting little kit, IIRC Walthers introduced them as inexpensive "practice" intros for some of their more intricate / expensive craftsman passenger car kits, "way back" in the day. They proved popular enough to catalog right up through the 80's. As I understand it they're fairly collectible. The one I traded was wood with diecast floor, sprung trucks and detailed interior.
Jeremey, pretty sure the bulkhead flat is a Roundhouse kit (as I have one) and the hopper is an Atlas Trainman - the 3 bays and stand-off end cage are a trademark feature of the prototype. Just an FYI.
I've a handful of wood kits that I found built, and have been wanting to get a few to build myself. I have a single-bay airslide and a PS-2 2-bay hopper that I would guess are old Ambroid kits, and the fidelity is incredible. They're packed up or else I would post pics.
