I got 2 redbox era F-Units that needs traction tires. What size of o-rings can I use?

theonly thing I could reccomend at this time is trying bullfrog snot (in the bottle, not the real thing) I see it advertised here and there and may try a bottle when I get home
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

I can't remember off the top of my head, but it seems like it's been discussed in an older thread.

OK I'm back. I had to run out there & look again. I'm turning 40 this year & if my memory gets any shorter I'm gonna be hurting. they are a #47 O ring. i also have a buddy that owns a transmission shop, i sorted through his old o ring box & found some that are perfect. so i confiscated about 20-25 of them. the only problem I've seen with the #47 O rings are they are just a little thick, but it hasn't hurt anything. There's another redneck on here "like me" that has used them but he slipped them on a screwdriver or bar stock of some kind & ground a little off of them with a bench grinder. I haven't tried that yet, but I would if I had too.

I think it's pretty interesting that a lot of my unboxed , Tyco Mantua, finds at train shows still have their traction tires intact, infact I have a B&O F7 from the early 70's that still has it's tires and they appear to still be pliable.

do a search
there is an old post on the entire subject.
I submitted pics of me grinding down an O ring mounted on a drill shaft.
It's a trial and error process--too high and the train jumps the track, too low and it doesn't grab, A lot cheaper than a jar of Bull Frog Snot.
I've also used a couple of coats of contact cement

I picked up a box of Calumet Trains traction tires for diesels Tuesday. I haven't tried them yet but they are transparent like the "traction tire substitutes" from the hair care isle some of us have been using. 20 tires, under $6.

Hi nelson, I tried to get some of those tires and the seller won't ship to Then Great White North. I don't understand that. Ken

Nelson, They say Super Traction Tires for diesels and I'm hoping to be pleased with how well they work. But they are clear and not black like Tyco's OE tires. At a little over $5 I thought I'd better get some while at the LHS

I guess they're not o-rings, then. It would be nice to find out if there are any manufacturers making them in that size. The guy on eBay is getting them somewhere.
