Being new I didn't realize there was a Mantua section until now. Anyway, I picked up a very old Shifter recently. It is all metal and the tender does not have a frame. The interesting thing is the motor - it is not the Mantua motor as it has a metal worm and the wire insulation is not plastic. After spending way too much time on HOSEEKER, it appears to be the motor shown in the 1946 instructions for the Goat. I see that the first shifter was released in 1950. The 1952 instructions show no tender frame but the Mantua motor. Could I have one of the first ones? The box has the number 02970 in it. rich p

I'm still learning about the old ones, too, Richard. COuld be someone swapped the motor out years ago to repower it, or they used something other than what is shown in known instructions. Seems like you have an early one, they used the cloth-covered wire instead of a plastic coating. Definitely very early unit.
