Since it's Father's Day and my dad was the one who got me started in the hobby, I'll post the engine that started it all, an AHM/Pocher/Rivarossi 4-4-0 "Genoa" American. Though sadly not the original one, with its brass turnings and constant presence around our Christmas tree, it is the model that started it all 45 years ago...it wouldn't be long after they made this one that they would go to cast plastic domes and fittings to cut costs.

Don't have a handy pic of my dad's set that started it all for me, but there's a million of 'em out there: the Lionel HO "Burlington 181" set. Will have to post that one later.
Meanwhile, my LotW is the one on the left, as my latest oddball find:

Can't imagine what the reasoning behind this one was - the gray almost looks unpainted plastic. But it is in fact paint - very thin, unevenly mixed paint sprayed on a black shell. Interesting, to say the least, and the contrast is striking next to the standard purple one.

My engine of the week is a highly prized Tyco GG1 in New Haven livery. Apparently only offered in '81 and '82, I have not seen this sell on auction sites under $50 of late. I ran across it in an antique mall near Lancaster, PA this weekend, along with two other Tyco GG1's, and decided to spend the $35 asking price on this unit. In very nice shape, missing both couplers ( easy fix ), and not scratched or marred, a few small spots but otherwise in nice shape. Pantagraphs are in nice condition as well.

I normally don't have much interest in New Haven, but with this being a rarity, I decided I liked it enough to buy it. Hopefully #6611 will be rolling along soon.

Actually, just a week ago the "haunt" closed for good, after many many years. Owner decided to retire; another victim of the economy, costs, and "the site". It was nice while it lasted though, and I'll miss it for sure. I certainly "donated enough to the cause" while it was open!
But yeah, looks like my days of local treasure hunting and finds are pretty well over and done - that was really the only place of its kind anywhere in central KY. Boo.

Hey, I LIKE the purple ACL livery! While I"m usually not fawning over it, I do like the looks of it on the engines. I've got an ACL SW7, as well as a couple of the F units now, in purple. Hope to find some Tyco ACL passenger cars as well, saw two sets go a few weeks ago, both over $50 for 3 or 4 cars. One set was 78. Yikes.
