I have a tyco deisel switcher 241 that runs well but the wheel pick ups have worn and do not cantact anymore,what options do I have regarding renewal or substitute parts,maybe adaption of other parts ,I'm sure others have come across this problem
RETRO.

If you don't find a repacement pick up I'd try to make a part maybe from similar parts in your parts box or get some brass at the LHS, Local hobby shop. If it's not too badly worn possibly you could rebend it so it makes better contact. This should be a fix that gives a railroader a sense of accomplishment when done, IMO.

I really like the little 241. I had one years ago and have since repkaced it It's a cute piece!

I think this is the same sprung pickup they use on the trolley, right? You could solder a short length of brass or phosphor bronze (it's the copper colored stuff most wipers are made from, so you can get some from a scrapped loco) to the end of the wiper and file the solder joint if necessary. Attach an alligator clip to the base of the pickup as a heat sink so that the plastic mount doesn't melt.

Soldering a small piece of brass usually works.
TIP: The Tyco Plymouth Switcher and the Tyco Trolley use the same parts.
