The next Allentown show is at the Ag Hall on Feb 27/28. It is a good show for Ho. If you pre-buy your ticket you can get in at 8am.

Saturday the 26th of February and Sunday the 27th. Odd thing I did notice is that my ticket and their site no longer differentiate scales between the days. I am HO only so I am going to go on Saturday as AF Kid mentions above. That has always been the tradition. HO on Saturdays and all the others on Sunday. Truth be told you can usually find most of the same on either day.

I can not complain as I did not spend more then 12 dollars on any item. The Athearn blue box was a awesome deal most of the cars were $4.50 each. The Silver Streak is for sale also make me a offer.

I went back on Sunday to see if I could get the NJ Transit engine and cars. The engine is an Athearn and the cars are Rivarossi. I never knew Athearn made a NJ Transit engine.

This is the rest of haul #2 I got today while wandering around for a while.

The chrome B&Os where purchased near the mens room in the larger hall from a father and son team that I never saw before. The set also came with 4 more chrome cars but the skirts are broke.

The AB set (which is perfect) and 4 beat up cars cost $65.00. The Chessie is a IHC and it has smoke and is boxed and cost $35.00. It came from the same vendor. $100.00 total for everything.

Today it was quality not quantity. The show was not very good for HO anyway. There was a lot of rolling stock but not many engines or dealers with quality stock.
The NJ Transit F40PH's are the earlier Bachmann Spectrum Hong Kong version With the flashing strobe lights on top of the Cab. All of these have issues witht the decals on one side.
The AHM engines were for parts.

I went to that show today. It was packed and there were some interesting pieces for sale. There is one bad note that I found out. The next show in February 2023 will cost $15 to get in for 1 day. Dealer tables will go up from $75 to $90. This was the last time I will go to that show unless I can get a free ticket. Higher dealer prices means the trains will cost more and there will be less dealers.
I did manage to find a couple of beat up Athearn Boom cars for parts that I have looking for. Two new Bachmann Amtrak Phase III Metroliner coaches for $5 each and a new Walthers CSX MoW #2 Orange Color cars set. Prices were somewhat higher and some dealers were willing to take reasonable offers.

I was there also. It is a big place and a hard place to meetup. I met my son there. He was at his clubs. Anthracite Railroads table in the big room. Your pridection about the show may come true. It is bad enough we have to drive so far to get there.
I did find a few dealer selling vintage HO at realistic prices. I found a Bowser bronze mountain and a Sakura B&O dockside 0-4-0T. Also a nice Hobbyline C&O H12-44 and a HObbyline scratched up twin set of FA-1's in Western Pacific.
Still I liked roaming around in the two Halls. I never found a Sakura dockside before. Always had high prices of over $100. When I saw it at $30. I got it. It is a strange diecast piece.
Not in its great detailing but you know the way every manufacturer almost always puts their letter in the name plate. That was the first thing I looked at and where you would see a V, R, RR, P or other letters there is a F. Seeing that and the made in Japan bottom plate I knew this was a special piece. With the importer being PFM Pacific Fast Mail maybe the F was for fast.
I do not know. Sorry I missed you! Frank

Another gem from 2019
A pair of TYCO F7a in C&O so I could fix my broken one. Also in TYCO a Pair of PRR 1860 coaches and a bobber caboose. It is lettered for Republic Steel and one not often seen. A Tyco PRR light car and Central Pacific 1860 low side gondola. An old boxed Mantua 0-6-0t. A old Rivarossi 0-4-0 saddle tank loco. And a real big book completes the stuff I got. Frank

It was a good show for old Gilbert trains for me. The Erie 0-6-0 set was a good find. And so was the old Gilbert passenger set of 3 cars. There was a traveling all English OO layout at the show. Here are some photos. Maybe you recognize some things.

Another gem from 2013
Today's show. Well the place was packed with people and it is a big place. Lots of trains and you can find HO scale there. On the whole the prices were higher. There were some buys. I did no't get much.
I meet Nelson there. And lost Nelson there. All you need to do is turn around. Gone! I hope he got a few buys. I am sure he will report or tell me of his finds.
On my way home I arranged to pass the Merchant Square Mall. It is a site of the other train shows. They have 4 or 5 a year there. It is a building full of antique dealers and a source of HO trains for me. More than half of what I got today came from the dealers there.
In my list I will put a A for the Allentown show today and a M for the Mall.
My finds
Gilbert Shell tank car A Gilbert Gulf tank car A Varney Texaco tank car A Varney Missouri Pacific 2 bay hopper with coal load A Fleischmann B&O 2 bay covered hopper M Marx Allstate tank car M Marx New Haven box car operating M Mark Rock Island caboose M Marx Monon work crane car M Sakai Hudson and Pacific tender M Rivarossi 0-4-0t saddle tank car A Marx Union Pacific F3 diesel M Faller freight station A

Nice haul. Were you walking around or did you have a table?
I didn't think it was that crowded. Not a lot of quality HO there.

Frank I did not know where you guys went! You got ahead of me. Like you said the place is huge and I had more luck in the second room. However I did not get to see everything completely by the time they were closing. Too much time chatting with people and browsing through parts bins. Oh well I was pretty tapped out cash wise by that point anyway.
The best buy of the day was a brand new NWSL Puller III for $15! I could not believe it when the dealer quoted me the price. I thought I had heard wrong. I also bought two Rivarossi boiler fronts from from him. One for the Consolidation and the other for the Espee Atlantic.
I got them cheap in a group of parts I picked out so I do not think he knew what they were. Most of the stuff was tinplate and HO prices were high. So most of my purchases were parts. Two highlights were a very nice Tyco RCA industrial switcher for $17. And a Lionel Rivarossi Wabash C-Liner B unit with flawless paint for $25.
I also got a U25C dummy in Conrail custom paint. I just bought it for the fuel tank casting. The paint job is pretty good aside from a somewhat crooked logo on one side. The guy was asking $10 but I offered him $5 and he accepted. I did not pay the asking price for anything except the Puller.

Nelson Well getting separated just happened. Not intended. It took you awhile but you got the fuel tank. What road name will the U25 be?
I remember a dealer having 3 or 4 trays of North West short line packaged products under his table. He had a corner table on a inside crossing isle in the second hall where you got later on. He had a few shelves on his table and many packaged parts from different manufactures. My friend Bob got some things from him.
I got a brass air tank to pilot mount on the other PRR N1 I will put together. The tank that came with the Cary N1 body kit is too small.
Well it would seem that we both missed meeting Pete. We all seemed to have a good day.

I was there Saturday around noon. It seemed more crowded than usual. It was hard to get past all those guys gawking. They were looking at O and S scale items. While I looked at the important HO items.
Prices did seem a bit higher for this show. I got a couple of interesting cars. Two for $5 and sprung for a Macy's box car at $10 because I've never seen one.
When I get home from work I will have to post a couple pix. I only spent about $25.

Here are my three cars from that show.

The Food Club and World Classics are AHM/IHC Made in Slovenia.
There is no marking on the Macy's car and I do not recognize the mold. The bottom rail for the sliding door which is black is part of the car floor not part of the body.

My post from February 2023
I went to the Allentown Pennsylvania show with Frank. My photos.

We stopped at the diner along route 78. Clinton New Jersey near the Pennsylvania border. Has a former CNJ observation car as part of the diner.

Train show at the Agri Plex in the Allentown Fairgrounds outside town.

Over 200 dealers and hundreds more customers at the show yesterday.

Tempting but a bit expensive. Both items that is.

Old Lionel train set for $125. Dealer mentioned $100 if I was interested in it. I was not. I have the cars
