I attended a train show in Cleveland Saturday and slid down the slope a little further.

First off, I added to the Mantua/Tyco reefer collection.  A proper Red Box Swift with open corner steps and screwed-on trucks:

When I first realized I wanted to collect all the Red Box reefers I already had a Kraft example, and in the 10+ years since I’ve never seen another one until now:

Second off, here be some more quad hoppers.

A Bachmann M&StL in the Minimalist scheme:

I already had a Bachmann in the Minimalist Union Pacific scheme, but here be another Bachmann in the Minimalist Union Pacific scheme, but from different tooling:

And finally, here be a Bachmann in the proper Union Pacific scheme:

And fourthly, I found a second hard-to-find green version of the Tyco CP Rail 50ft plug door boxcar!

Oddly, the inside of the shell appears to have both red and yellow paint overspray, but there’s no red or yellow paint on the outside (obviously). The lettering and Multimark are tampo printed so the car appears to have come from the factory this way.

Umm…if you notice, Busss, I put multiple pix in the post about the hoppers.  And further, you’ll also notice there’s 15-20 minutes between posts.  I didn’t do it all at once.

And are you suggesting I made a mistake?

I went to a Greenberg show in Monroeville, PA at the beginning of August and slid down the slope a little further!

More Varney/LifeLike flats:

This is the third L&N flat I have found.  It has the same road number as the other two I have.  I’ve lost count of how many NYC flats I have - between 20 and 30 maybe?

…and a couple of Tyco 40ft Western Maryland flats - the hard-to-find bright green one, and the boxed example, you can’t really tell in the picture, is unpainted green plastic. I don’t know if it’s uncommon or not, but I’ve never noticed one before, so I got it just in case.

SANKA!!!!!

This one has been eluding me for a long time!  I still have the one from my childhood, but it got dropped and the end bracing was destroyed.  Now all I need are Maxwell House and Alcan Chemical Products.  I could have gotten the Maxwell House at the Greenberg show if I had been willing to let go of a hundred bucks, but I couldn’t see that happening!

I attended a couple of shows recently and bought even more quad hoppers.

Tyco:

Model Power:

In order - Tyco, Lionel, can’t remember , the rest Rivarossi:

The Lionel is one I’ve been trying to get for a while; the ones I was finding were either in rough shape or too expensive.

Top row - Rivarossi, Rivarossi, Lionel (yes, I found a second one)
2nd row - Bachmann, Bachmann, Bachmann
3rd row - Bachmann, Tyco, Tyco
4th row - Tyco, Tyco, Tyco
5th row - late Tyco (made in Yugoslavia, w/roller bearing trucks), Tyco, Tyco:

Also, I came across a black version of the Lionel Alaska hopper.  I’ve never seen the black one before, but the seller wanted a lot more for it than I was willing to pay.  Now I’ve got something else to look for!

My TOHD is alive and well!

I have so many Virginians now that I usually pass them up, but this one was only $2.50.

I don’t usually buy operating hoppers with missing corner steps anymore, but I did buy a second Spreckels (not pictured) missing a corner step because it had the roof for a Monon car with it, just in case I ever found another good Monon hopper without a roof.

That gamble paid off:

In my experience, the Reading, Pennsylvania, and Monon cars are somewhat harder to find, but the real prize for me is the DT&I, only the third one I’ve ever stumbled upon, and only the second one I’ve acquired.

The Varney/Life-Like flat car obsession also continues!

Here’s another silver NYC:

I have relatively few of these compared to the black version.

Speaking of which:

I got another black NYC too, along with another Life Like Shows flat…

…and another Life Like Shows flat:

And another Clyde Beatty Circus flat in white:

Another Pennsylvania:

And finally another SLSF:

I got my first Mantua/Tyco 40ft Penneys boxcar:

I passed up the first one I ever saw because it was in rough condition and I kicked myself for it.  The second one probably was priced higher than I was willing to pay.  $15 for this one seemed not unreasonable.  It’s missing one corner step.

Now I need the 50 footer.

This was a real score!

Both the Bubble Yum and True Value trailers are hard to find.

…so I’m apparently collecting the Tyco trailers now, because I also got these:

The SeaLand trailers (with the red band logo and Mansfield bars) are not common either.

Now I need some Santa Fe flat cars to haul these trailers!
