I bought these as a lot on Ebay mainly because I like the logo on them and the shape of the front end. Would like to know about when these were made, what locomotive they were modeled after, and,if any other Tyco locomotives use the same running gear, trucks etc. Only one was complete and running. A second runs but is missing parts, third is just a shell. I appreciate any information you may have on these.

The file names of the photos contain spaces. Not all platforms welcome that. Also, while filenames can contain parentheses, I don't know whether the scripting done in this message board system plays well with those.
You might want to try renaming the photos something simpler and uploading them again.

Thanks ! Renaming them worked ! I did some searching on Google and found that these were modeled after a Baldwin locomotive, the RF-16 I believe.
Would still like to know when Tyco made these.

The RF16A Sharknose by Baldwin. Real engine, fantasy paint scheme. Made in the 70's. Any Tyco Power Torque drives and 70's era Tyco parts will work.

** Baldwin RF16's. Very nice loco's. But those drives can at times be unreliable. The earlier ones with the MU2 drives were a lot better, and it isn't to hard to replace these with them. People here have gone past that and kept the body and put new drives in them. Most use Athearn drives, because they are cheep at times and give all wheel pick up and all axels are driven. They come with diecast frames that improve the weight on each axel. frank

I kinda figured the paint scheme/logo was not of a real line. The instant I saw those on Ebay I thought of the song "Midnight Special" by one of my all time favorite bands-- CCR-- and had to have them !! Whenever Irun that locomotive will have to play the song !!

I had wondered about replacing the frames and running gear on the locomotives. Doesn't look like it would be to hard to do.

I've got four Midnight Special Sharks that retain the original drives and they run beautifully. I also have 5 other Tyco Sharks, 4 of which are NYC, and they run fine with the original drives.

Since picking up these Midnight Specials I have bought a Tyco Rock Island shark nose, a Tyco US Army switcher and a Tyco 0-8-0 steamer. All three run great after a bit of cleaning, oiling and a set of tires.

Actually the Tyco Sharknose represents the earlier DR-4-4-15 sharknose

Any major differences between the two? Just comparing pictures the DR-4-4-15 in a sharknose carbody looks extremely similar to a RF-16 Sharknose, and the wikipedia article (not claiming it as concrete proof!) says the RF-16 is essentially a "de-bugged" DR-4-4-15. Also I now noticed the front stirrup on Tyco's model is too short. That's going to bug me now.
sim-al2 Also since they cut track maintaince the trains had huge trouble making over the railroad by the end 純那 yeah They did a Rock Island volountarily

The biggest visual difference is that the RF-16 has additional grilles on the sides shortly rearward of the cab doors.
