I just bought 6 Gilbert HO scale passenger cars, 2 baggage RPO's (item No. 133) and 4 coaches (item No. 135). Only 4 of the cars still hive light bulbs, of which only 2 work. I tried to find what bulbs these use, but all the sites I found only talk about their S gauge items, not the HO ones. I was wondering if someone here knows what bulbs these use and where to get them.

There's a listing on ebay claiming to be for Gilbert HO bulbs. Not exactly cheap, but it does have a part number.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/201499968105?itmmeta=01JAEVDRWTD7S2ESM21F4SYDBJ&hash=item2eea558269&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA8MXSoqU64xclLsWLKopDCSAFt2U0FbJQY%252BhU2iOICwxzlCnreXykM6wcUfxcUaTePq2RRFLbUnqcaiIibkSclsPWyhMcltUUzeB2ejl4Qqtt47%252BRs%252FCgZ%252BgZ3Do69uqnlWggI3an1IcBjS0LAWlKia%252FechahMb5%252FE9tu1e6SSmjX35EBieAO1PpCXD07FAlR3Af09uFsAfVjPVmjJSJOdc7Bo6Sv1X0NlF5%252BMHM9OwhtjI8ENGCMrAwd6O1iKq5eFynxo5qe%252Fsy3Tw6Gt9oZg3ElG6AkeGIU8DLLmiONam3ZsgYZmnLbtdX1PuSmVKVMpg%253D%253D%7Campid%3APL_CLK

LifeLike used to make generic bulbs that fit in a variety of things (they drop in to Tyco cars and engines IIRC). Maybe these could be adapted?

No, neither of those are them, they screw into the housing and are way bigger than the Tyco ones. I'll get a picture when I get home.

I'm looking around on google, and it looks like an E10 Edison Miniature Screw base. Amazon has a number of bulbs that look similar, you just need to make sure you get the correct voltage. Something like this...

https://www.amazon.ca/CEC-Industries-Bulbs-G-3-5-Shape/dp/B00JNFBZMU/ref=asc_df_B00JNFBZMU/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=706760194702&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9452313126881974831&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000679&hvtargid=pla-312642358217&psc=1&mcid=5a5fab3377b133e4a229dbc5f9e9982e&gad_source=1

Hopefully that helps. I've never tried to replace one of those.

If you are able to go to a train show, there are vendors that sell nothing but parts and they should be able to match something to what you have.

Try this: https://hennings-trains.shoplightspeed.com/electrical/bulbs/

Ask this seller for more details: https://www.ebay.com/itm/256611727586

This seller mentions passenger cars: https://www.ebay.com/itm/203785934761?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D275058%26meid%3Da74eb59bcbeb480cbff54e1c6f78aa2c%26pid%3D101506%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D256611727586%26itm%3D203785934761%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4481478%26algv%3DDefaultOrganicWebWithV11WebTrimmedV3VisualRankerWithKnnV3AndUltBRecall&_trksid=p4481478.c101506.m1851

Good luck, and let us know what you find.
