I know this is an older post but I have a question for other Life Like fans.
I just received a Life Like Fruit Loops 40' boxcar yesterday.
It has the original box with a pasted on LL label.
This car is mounted on a Varney chassis with sprung trucks, and body mounted couplers.
Is this the way it came from the factory?
I know LL took over Varney in the late 60's,could this be a transition car?
Also do any of you know when this car was made?

Thanks so much,

Carl--here is a photo of my FrootLoops car. It is standard Life-Like issue--snap in trucks and plastic underframe. Made in Hong Kong

Hey Brian,
The one I have has no black roof, and black snap in door guides.
Could this be an earlier release?

Hi Choochin3,

I have one with the red roof, black snap in trucks and the black door guides. It says Life Like made in Hong Kong on the bottom. seems like alot of variations on this one.

I'm willing to bet that whoever painted the grab irons on that one, also painted the roof.

I used to have one of these; it had the separate door tracks and standard Life-Like chassis and trucks. And a pink roof.

G-I-C I paid no attention to the painted ladder until reading your reply. It is done in Sharpie marker as the other side is color of car. Roof is not painted by individual. It appears factory as the ends of car are same color. I have noticed on some other 2 tone life like cars that the colors are not to even along lines--Cheap chinese labor of the day?

Carl--I would say there are many variations of this. I am not too familiar with life-like as when i was younger--The Tyco packaging always drew me away from them and Bachmanns packaging of the late seveties and early eighties--that horrible Yellow packaging. Life-like was definitly much better
