Anyone good with CAD? I downloaded Anyrail, but it doesn't seem to do anything, work, e.g.
I want to see how small I can do a twice around using a forty five, or sixty degree crossing
using Bachmann EZ track in HO. Anyone?

Using 18r or 15r?

Good question. I'd like to use 18 for the twice around, and surround it with a basic oval, not
connected, for two train running. Since I'll be running low scale Tyco upon it, I imagine
15 inch might fit, literally, the bill. 18 inch might push the outer parameters of a 4x8 space,
and I had not considered using 15. Maybe 15 for the innermost turn and 18 to go around it.

Both can be done in a 4x5 space with 18r curves. You could add an outer loop around them but it would be right on the table edge. Have you considered adding a 1x4 or 1x6 plank alone g e outside of the table to gain a few more inches? Here is what I came up with.

This plan uses all 18r curves. It also uses only standard sizes of straights, no fitter pieces needed.

Track
44501, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 18", angle 30º 23
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9". 1
44512, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 3". 5
44513, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2.25". 1
44514, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 4.5". 3
44531, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve (1/2) radius 18", angle 15º 2
44543, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 3". 45º 1

To straighten out the layout so that it is parallel with the table edges requires the use of two 22r sections.

Track
44501, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 18", angle 30º 22
44503, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 22", angle 22.5º 2
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9". 1
44512, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 3". 10
44514, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 4.5". 1
44531, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve (1/2) radius 18", angle 15º 1
44543, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 3". 45º 1

It takes up a little more room with a 60 degree crossing, but uses only 18r curves but needs a couple of short fitter pieces.

Track
44501, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 18", angle 30º 24
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9". 6
44542, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 3". 60º 1
44592-2, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1". 1
44592-4, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1.5". 1

I will draw up some 15r versions if you'd like. But those are going to require the extensive use of the short fitter sections. Personally, I'd avoid 15r curves if possible.

15" radius is less problematic using 1/2 length 18" radius as an easement between straight and curve sections.

BRAVO!! THANK YOU!!!!

Yes, hit with a design using 15 inch curves. Bachmann makes a lot of fitters and
the Tyco stuff will tolerate 15 inch. I'm not doing turnouts. Thanks!!!!

OK here are the original three plans redrawn with 15r curves. All require the use of small fitter pieces which I have marked on the plans.

Track
44505, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 15", angle 30º 23
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9". 1
44512, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 3". 4
44513, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2.25". 2
44514, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 4.5". 1
44531, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve (1/2) radius 18", angle 15º 2
44543, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 3". 45º 1
44592-2, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1". 2
44592-3, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1.25". 2

Track
44503, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 22", angle 22.5º 2
44505, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 15", angle 30º 22
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9". 1
44512, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 3". 7
44513, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2.25". 1
44514, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 4.5". 1
44531, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve (1/2) radius 18", angle 15º 1
44543, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 3". 45º 1
44592-4, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1.5". 1
44592-5, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 2". 1

Track
44505, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Curve radius 15", angle 30º 24
44511, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 9". 3
44512, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 3". 5
44514, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 4.5". 1
44542, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Crossing 3". 60º 1
44592-2, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1". 1
44592-3, H0 Bachmann E-Z Track, Straight 1.25". 2

As you can see, there is plenty of room on all three plans to add a loop of track around the perimeter. All fit comfortably on a 4x5 space, so expanding them to fit a 4x8 should pose no problems.
