Hello, I'm trying to repair an Amtrak GG1 for a young gentleman in my neighborhood. It's missing both couplers. Is there a way to order new X2F couplers for this locomotive. Thanks, Dennis

Yes, but it requires a specific kind of Tyco coupler that attaches to the trucks. Someone will provide the correct data, shortly, I am sure.

I am surprised no one has picked up on this yet. In general, I recall it requires a long shank with a plastic molded on spring and a small hole to fit on the pin within the truck.
As far as the motor goes, it is a PT motor, and they are not very good. I added a second power truck to my Tyco GG1 and it went from scarcely dragging two coaches to flying with seven.
Calumet makes a good traction tire if the old ones are dried, and they probably are. Avoid bull frog snot. It is a waste of time and of money.
Update: I did a quick eBay search and found no long shanked Tyco couplers of this description. Short shanked couplers will not work. It is surmised that Tyco long shanked couplers are going to be a bit rare. You have to purchase a PT truck that already has the particular couplers attached. This would be the three axle truck, not two.
Looking here was a good idea, but I would guess that anyone who collects Tyco is going to be hard pressed to give out free samples of this rare coupler.

I bet you could use long shank caboose couplers. Don't know if Tyco made them but Bachmann made a ton of them, and they show up frequently on ebay. Seems like a few other brands had long shanks on their cabeese too. Worth a look.

Maybe I'm wrong about the shanks? I'm see regular Tyco couplers that slot into three axle trucks on eBay. The coupler socket appears to be long, but the couplers themselves appear one size fits all.

Here's a parts only loco with 3 axle trucks. See what I mean? If I get a chance I'll dig out my Tyco G and see, but those do look like regular Tyco couplers mounted on a long coupler pocket.

I have one to spare chops. Unless you moved recently I have your address.
Maybe a while, I had spine surgery and haven't driven yet. Soon though.
