Could be if that's made by Heljan. Tyco outsourced quite a bit when it comes to their buildings, you'll see a lot stamped Pola on the bottom. Heljan also made items for Bachmann. I have a very nice Bachmann Engine house made in Denmark (Heljan). If done right they can turn out to be very nice models.

I took a gander at the Ioffer site. It seems that most of the listings are legit and sensibly priced however I about fell out of my chair when I looked at listings from two or three certain "sellers" and their prices as listed or responses on their counter offers.
Someone should send them an offer for a "Reality Check".
Overall opinion of the site - No thanks, I'll pass.

Hey Todd, I bought a Bubble yum set complete in the old white box about 3 years ago. One of the trailers I have pictured belong to the set. I have it stored at my X wife's house along with most of my other train collection...

| a lot of ebayers i have had misfortune to come across,jack postage up,as that way they pay less ebay fees,so if postage is set at $20 and item sells for $5 they only pay fees on $5,but if postage is set at $5 and it sells for $20 they pay fees on $20,but i always charge what package weighs,no hidden packaging charge etc ken

The shipping cost is one of the main things I look at on ebay and I shy away from items with outrageous shipping fees. No matter HOW bad I want/need the item listed.

Aaskas, I do the same thing. Sometimes I will pay a slightly higher poastage if it's something I must have (or want, for a better phrase). But I never pay a "crazy price" for postage...

That's a good one VintageHO ! I had a pair of the A&P lights from Life-Like back in the 70s. I bought a pair to replace them since I started recollecting. These don't seem to be very popular, and I've never seen a pair sell for more than $5.
In the 70s, I had these placed on each end of the Life-Like, Convenience Store.

Not an auction, but I was at an antique "mall" yesterday and they had a Tyco SF GP-20 and a Silver Streak ---$42.50 each. I don't know where they dreamed that number up. The Lionel HO stuff was even worse--$200+ for locos.
Strangely, one booth had nice postwar Lionel O gauge items for a reasonable price. I may go back. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like demand for postwar Lionel is cooling off.

Ken, a Saturn Vue is a small General Motors SUV that was sold here in the states for several years; I don't know if it ever made it across the pond as a Vauxhall or Opel or not (doubtful).

As for ebay insanity: People make mistakes and idiots exist in all walks of life. "Bad" ebay listings are no different than overpriced booths at flea markets and train shows, overly hopeful / optimistic opening bids at estate sales, inflated initial prices at car lots... or in any other marketplace since the beginning of time. Some people honestly don't know any better, while some may be borderline crooks. But that applies to buyers as well as sellers. This is nothing new, and nothing worth gawking at over and over and over... I mean really, is there nothing better to do?
Is it hypocritical to bash sellers who mark things high... and then brag about scoring something cheap from those who don't know what they have? Which is the more unsavory form of dishonesty, the bigger rip-off? Depends on the side of the fence you're on, but it's two sides of the same transactional coin.
Personally I find this all in bad taste. So we happen to know about trains... big deal. Stray out of your comfort zone and try selling something you just inherited or found or were given but otherwise know absolutely nothing about, and find out how many interested forums make fun of you. Or try shooting for the moon with a price to make PT Barnum blush: if you're in business to make a buck, hey, it's worth a shot right?
That's not to say some of it isn't occasionally funny or amusing... because some of it IS... but, it won't ever end or go away, and after so many examples the phrase "move along, nothing more to see here" sorta makes sense. Besides, sometimes dumb listings are deliberately created as a form of trolling or silly office bets or ID phishing or boredom or what have you. Why? Who knows...but it happens. In the end, I trust that I make the right personal decision by moving on when the price is too high or the description too vague for me. I don't need to seek justification and inflate my ego by making a big spectacle of it.
Something about glass houses and stones and all that...
I just think it would reflect better on us as a group if we didn't stoop to this level.

I love spider/GIC's rants. Makes me think of the mixed feelings I have about the TV show "American Pickers."
But aside from that, I've noticed two distinct markets around here. Antique stores seem to be jumping on the HO bandwagon and pricing high. The local train shows seem to be going the other way, with HO prices low and O/G scale reigning supreme. I've gone to train shows and bought $2 MIB locos and the seller was thanking me profusely, saying " I don't want to haul all this home." That was more than one occasion. Other times, at antiques stores, I've seen common Tyco F3s marked over $50 "firm." I makes no sense, except to say that an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
Personally, I try to never pay "high" prices for HO trains. I don't assign any collector value to them, and I can usually find them cheap. Garage sales have been a gold mine lately--and I don't feel like I've "ripped them off" or anything. I usually pay what they're asking. A couple times I bartered with them because I didn't have any more cash, but they could easily have refused. I try to be honest. For example, at a sale this summer they had a huge box of structures/2 locos/some rolling stock marked $50. They saw I was interested, but I told them I only had $23 in my pocket. That was the truth, and they seemed happy to get it. I could have turned around and sold items on ebay to make easily four times that, but that's not what it's about.
On the flipside, I can totally see why sellers would price things high. Why not? If someone's willing to pay it, then so be it. Might as well try to get what you can. Sure it's frustrating to us cheap buyers, but that's how the game is played.
One last story I thought of, make of it what you will: there's a huge flea market nearby twice a year. I've been to every one since I was in 5-6th grade, and I'm 34 now. For the last 3 years I've seen a tent with the same items, specifically a group of HO locos. There's an AHM SF Alco RS-3, four common Bachmanns, and an Athearn Cotton Belt dummy, all filthy and obviously untested. The dealer also has a booth at a nearby permanent flea market/antique store/converted storage unit where she tries to sell the same items the rest of the year. Last time I was there (at the flea market), she saw me looking at the locos. They were marked $25-45 each. She shot me a price on the AHM RS-3 of $20 and said it was a "real bargain." I said to her, "No offense, but at a train show I might pay $5 for this." She seemed to think that was ridiculous. I'm sure I'll see her and those locos at the next flea market. Maybe someday someone will pay that, but I doubt it. Oddly enough, the Athearn dummy was probably the most "valuable" item there, and it was marked cheapest.

I can see the validity in most of Spiders post however I wonder how it is that someone can use technology (internet) to post on EBay and yet not take the time to perform due diligence in performing a little research on market pricing for an item (EBay has this feature) prior to listing such an outrageous price. I don't believe ignorance is a valid excuse for such actions given the plethora of information available on the net these days.
It's a free country so they have the right to be stupid (unfortunately). I'm guessing that as long as EBay gets their listing fees for this auction they really don't care either right?

Yes the research part is important on both ends of the deal. As a seller it would benefit them in a few ways. First they might not underprice a BIN and lose money they could have had. When they overprice I think most of the time they are just wasting their own time, how do you put a value on that? Personally, I value my time quite a bit.
I've never put up a BIN with my trains. I start them low but I also make sure they're properly listed so the right people find them. The rest takes care of itself.

Insane SEARS HO BOXCAR auction - I have 4 of these in my collection and did not pay over 15.00 if even that for them - This one must be GOLD plated somewhere

Brianstyco - you know I paid $10 for MY pristine Sears boxcar Will find whatever is listed here LOWER at train shows or hobby stores than what is listed

Not to make fun of this guy, (well, maybe yes). Check out his other stuff like a roll of "Vintage Model Power 2 Conductor Hook Up Wire - MIP" for $8.99 or a "Lot of vintage train layout wiring- LOOK", condition "used" for only $18.00 for example.
To be fair, he lists a lot of duck figurines - So maybe he can legitimatelly say he knows nothing about model trains. I don't think he's going to sell any of the model train items he's listed.
