Hobbytown E7 A-B units. Previous owner worked in the paint shop at local transit , so the last thing he felt like doing at home was " paint a damn train". They run great, not as fast as I'd like, and develop an overload after a few rounds of the layout. Anyone familiar with Pittman style motors have any clues why this happens? Motor is very clean. I will test out a Roco can motor , and see what happens. Evan

I wish I could tell you, PGE.Anyway, my LOTW is a Bachmann Thomas range Duck. To be honest, the model's actually pretty neat looking in my opinion.

Model Power E7. Not running yet, it has cracked universals, should be an easy fix with new universals from NWSL.

This is a Hobbyline Berkshire kit with a Simms chassis. I reproduced some of the kits plastic valve gear parts with metal parts and added a few other details to the shell.

My LOTW is one that I picked up for a buck at a swap meet. I looks to be an old Globe Models F-7. It is unpowered and I suppose it is a factory undecorated model despite the fact that it is in silver.

The big old Pittman open frame motors were high in torque and fairly low in RPM, which is probably why they're a bit slow at the top end.
As for the overload, a big open frame motor would draw some big amperage, especially while powering two heavy units. What sort of power pack do you have? A small train set pack might be running at its upper limits and starting to heat up. If it's a more hefty power pack, then the problem's something else. I wonder how freely the drive train moves.

Which Pittman motor is it? And what power pack are you using? If I remember correctly some of the Hobbytown locos had huge Pittman motors that draw more current than the normal HO power pack can handle. As you said, a large can motor should solve the problem too though.

I'm using an MRC Tech II 2500. It seems capable of running double and triple headers with no problems. The motor Hobbytown used in the E7 was a Pittman DC71A. Does this info. shed any light on the problem? My only other non-trainset type controller is a Troller Model 30, also around one amp.

My locomotive(s) of the week are my new Baldwin Demo' Centipedes. Both are numbered 6000... (the second 6000's)
I will post "Set Of The Week" with my Baldwin Demonstrators. See that thread for another picture of the Centipedes.
Enjoy!
p.s. yes, both are beasts of dcc sound... when firing them up, all FOUR motors wind up and down nicely!
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I thought it might have had the Pittman DC-91 motor which draws a bit more than the DC71A.

They could be extreem at about 20"r and no less. However, the leading truck is very light and sensitive to bumps. The inner-most "driver-axles" are not geared, actually making this a 4-6-1+1-6-4 wheel arrangement, not a 4-8-8-4. Only the body's frame is metal. All else is plastic. This is also the first-run series Centipede set that came out in 2012... Out of a score of 10, I'd give it a 7, to be fully honest. I've yet to get a dcc power system. Sounds are limited with a dc power supply. Unfortunately, I'm a bit disappointed with this locomotive set... I'm sorry to say. It's a demonstrator, that's what I like. Dynamic brakes were not incorporated in these locomotive prototypes. You may read the write-ups about these locomotives in the May 1982 issue of TRAINS mag'. John

Hello Steven,
Yes. I think the reason I was able to snag it before someone else. It was listed in the middle of the night EST and he had set his shipping rather high at $66. There were 6 days and 19 hours left in the listing when I saw it at 7:30 am EST. That puts the start time at something close to 2:00 - 2:30 AM EST. A terrible time to start a listing unless it is a BIN. I've saved a quick bookmark tab for BIN listings and I check it periodically throughout the day.. sometimes. You never know what will pop up!
The BIN was for $50 w/ $66 s/h. Some people see a large shipping charge and shy away from a purchase. I don't car so long as the combined is less than what I am willing to pay. As soon as I recognized the Atlantic, I jumped!
Then after I purchased it I saw these Urlich truck parts BONUS!!
I can't see any more parts for them in the lot, but who knows what is in all those boxes?

Of course, being who I am, what caught my eye in all that was the box of tank cars Is that really a Thomas Industries Roma Wine car I see buried in there? Take it out and post a picture, I wanna see! That's one of the cars I'd really like to find sometime, I'm still trying to coax a halfway-decent model out of the AHM version but it's not going so well.

Hello Connor,
Yes it is a Roma Wine car from Thomas Industries. The original box is there too.. Yes.. I saw that too and was pleased about it.... only after making the purchase. I was not even looking at that when I jumped on it. All it took was seeing the Atlantic. Hell, I had not even looked at the shipping cost until after I agreed to buy! LOL!
Here is the box... What I find curious is the box just to the right... It is a early Mantua box. I don't see any other early Mantua's in the lot but the Atlantic loco. It could be a tank car box, but if it is the loco box, then that is a real bonus! Those are almost impossible to find! I have one box top for the Atlantic and two for the Mountain Mechanism Kit. None for th ePacific or Consolidation!

Hi Frank! Its Sean! , LOL! Haven't changed my name just yet...
They have not come yet and it might be a while before I get to open the box. I have not opened any in almost two months. I have two stacks of sealed boxes from floor to ceiling and I am working on my third. Just haven't had the time with my daughters being active in ice hockey and soccer. Between the two of them, they are on four hockey teams and one soccer team. I'll try to remember when it comes though.

OPPS ! Hi Sean. Thanks for the correction. That Thomas 5 dome is hard to find and usually expensive. Is that deep rock a old Mantua or Globe-Athearn. I seen the Athearn SP silver tank. That should be a metal one also. Another good find. Well school starts, so as you say you'll be a very busy shofar. Enjoy all of the games. ** Have a happy - Frank

I'd wager the deep-rock car is Globe/Athearn. Found me the UTLX version myself for $1 but the domes are cracked
