Final Spike Steam Train Empress 2816 Steam Tour
Coming in 2024 Canadian Pacific 2816 locomotive "The Empress" is set to depart Calgary in late April of 2024
This 2816 steam tour will bring the story of our railway’s history and future to life for visitors across our network.
The 4-6-4 Hudson type steam locomotive was built in 1930 by Montreal Locomotive Works.
It served as a roving steam powered ambassador for Canadian Pacific throughout Canada and the United States until 2012.
After a decade of slumber the engine has been carefully prepared to once again travel the rails.

The steam event of the year is kicking off in Calgary on Friday April 26.
Recently restored Canadian Pacific H1b 4-6-4 2816 departs on an ambitious tour of the United States Canada and Mexico.
CP 2816 and her train were set to depart CPKC Railway’s Ogden Yard Friday morning bound for the Medicine Hat area.
Where it will overnight before continuing on to Moose Jaw Saskatchewan for an event on Sunday.
On Monday April 29 the locomotive will continue to Minot North Dakota.
Additional events where the public can get up close with the locomotive are scheduled for
Minot North Dakota on April 30.
Saint Paul Minnesota on May 3.
Franklin Park Illinois on May 8.
Davenport Iowa on May 10.
Kansas City on May 18.
Shreveport Louisiana on May 24.
Laredo Texas on May 28.
The locomotive will continue to Mexico City afterward and be on display there in early June.
CPKC has released a schedule for the locomotive’s moves between each display site and as activated a tracker so that people can watch the train’s progress.
The railroad has said the tracker will be turned off at night or when safety demands it. The tracker can be found online.

Steam Tour train arrives at Bensenville Yard on May 6 2024.
Canadian Pacific No. 2816 and the Final Spike Steam Tour have reached Chicago.
Well technically Bensenville Illinois.
The home of CPKC’s yard west of the city and adjacent to O’Hare Airport.
That is where the locomotive is laying over after its two day trip from Saint Paul Minnesota.
Will be there prior to Wednesday’s display in Franklin Park Illinois.
Metra employee and photographer Mark Llanuza made arrangements to capture these images within Bensenville Yard.
He saw the locomotive and the CPKC executive train as it swung off the Union Pacific line.
A line used by CPKC as a cutoff from Tower A-20 on Metra’s Milwaukee Distric North line to B-17 on the Milwaukee District West line.
The still active Tower B-17 building is visible in the background of the photo at top behind the train’s dome car.
The Union Pacific line is above the retaining wall in both shots.
The display in Franklin Park will be at the small park at 9748 Franklin Avenue.
That includes the preserved Tower B-12.
Display time is 3 pm to 8 pm.
Great time to visit Chicago tomorrow and Wednesday.
