I wondered for a long time about the quality and design of Athearn's original version of the GP9 (which was actually a GP7 of course), which had the "tower" gear drive in metal trucks and a big square motor. I finally got one, and I have to say, it's an impressively good runner from the 50's!

I really love the way models of this era were built. Easy and fun to work on, without a ton of delicate plastic bits. Nice build, and excellent video!

This is good material. One of the reasons I belong to a collector's forum is not that I'm a collector. In the true sense, I'm not, but I like to learn what's out there in old school equipment. Videos like this show me the equipment, inside and out.
