I have one Tyco 50ft plug door boxcar with a small hole in each end:

I’ve never noticed another one having these holes. I got this car new in the box when I was a kid and it already had the holes in it. I suppose someone could have bought it, drilled the holes for some reason and then returned it to the store, but that isn’t very likely. Anyway, anybody else ever seen this?

Most likely a screw fit into that bottom hole. Some Tyco streamline passenger cars also had that feature.

Lionel freight cars as well. At least some of them.

I have rebuilt dozens of Tyco pluggers over the years and I have never seen this feature. Could you send more pictures of the shell? I would like to see what it looks like inside the shell as well.

I am in the middle of relocating from North Carolina to Ohio, so it is packed away in a tote somewhere at the moment. I’ll post some pictures if I can find it!
