My car for this week is the Gilbert Shell tank car #125 SEPX 8681. This tank car like some other Gilbert HO cars is a combination of both A.C.Gilbert stuff and Varney stuff, toped off with the standard great paint and lettering. A silver Varney tank car shell sits atop a standard Gilbert metal tank car frame, with its two black end caps and it black dome cover plate with fill valve openings. From underneath you can see the standard Gilbert acourterments. Gilbert trucks, Gilbert truck spring and X2F coupler, Gilbert plastic coupler plate with what looks like 2 boards holding everything in place with a hollow brass rivet through all that stuff, holding the plate and the other stuff inplace. It takes all this combined technoligy suplied by these two overgrown little boys to create Gilbert #125. Us modelers thank them everyday for what they created, Great train stuff!
OH Yea! The original 1939 to 1940 something pre war version is out there with all the same stuff except for under the metal tank car frame. There you have old original non sprung metal trucks with the metal sprung big hook couplers which A.C.Gilbert dreamed up. Funny thing is they worked! Woopeee!
It's a heck of a day frank

I haven't done diddly with my American stuff in a while, but seeing RP's fine PEMCO got me going through the shelves looking for my custom painted L & N caboose as I don't know that PEMCO ever did a matching L & N caboose. Then I stumbled over this AHM caboose I didn't even know I had!
