Another way to get around is by horse. As well as by car.

Horse figure at a 99 cents store with other figures. Car at a hobby store.

Walt, those blinking billboards are the toast! I did not know these things existed, by Tyco, no less.
I rather enjoyed riding on the trolley buses in San Francisco back in '80. Smooth, quiet, efficient.
This set dates to the 1960's and functions very nicely and was not terribly hard to set up.
They must have made a lot of them, as they still turn up on feeBay, and this one was a NOS.

Cool, Ben! That Kaiser is mega cool. 1947, no less. I used to drive
a bus for the University. It was much better than trying to find
parking and walking three miles. During rush hour the 40 footers
would be stuffed like an Indian passenger train. People would have
climbed on the roof, if they could. One of those flexi buses would
have been real nice.

Were university bus services common back in the day? There's a guy on YouTube who owns a pair of GM buses from Kent State University's Campus Bus Service. I hadn't even realized it was a thing before seeing his videos.

MB, both the bus and monorail are 3D printed!

I liked the Mini Lindy series as a kid. I had a few on my layout sitting around. I should buy the Mail truck again that I had back then. I still have it but it is missing something, I can remember what right off...

I'd like to buy a new one Glenn. They are on ebay but in the Mini Lindy series, you never know what color of car or truck is in the box. I don't want a green "mail truck"...

This was at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. and
there were a fleet of 40' GMC's and a handful of
40' Grummans, and a smattering of 35' for campus
shuttle and less patronized routes. The service was
free, tax payer funded, e.g., so it had a lot of patronage.
Pioneer Valley Transit Authority. I did this part time
while attending University full time. Of the two, I
much preferred driving the bus. A great place to
meet girls, for starters. Lot of pretty scenery, too,
besides the ladies.

oh boy did U-Hail make me DROOOL for!

Chops, these buses are actually Fords

I never saw nor drove that old beater! Though I did drive one a lot
like it from LA to NYC back in early 1980's for a cross country tour
trip with a load of German tourists. It had luggage bins below, and
we camped out at all these National Parks along the way. It was a
fabulous trip, like a vacation.

Truth be told, I liked driving a bus more than going to University.
I should have stayed in that field, but everyone said go to college,
so I did as I was told. In a bus, unlike a truck, you're home every
night.

I've developed an opinon that college is great, if you have some particular
ambition in medicine, or chemical engineering, etc, but otherwise it is
a racket that can create a lot of worthless debt and no particular future.

Sounds about right. So many people I know went to school for fields they didn't end up in. A racket indeed.

Nice looking RTS! I saw a video of one being driven by a larger guy and the windshield really didn't look like it was tall enough. I believe he was 6'5", so above the average, but I can certainly sympathize. I've driven a few Orion models and they seem to have the best visibility of any large scale bus manufacturer.

One of the advantages of a bus is that the motor is 35 to 40 feet behind you.
The air ride seats also provided a comfortable ride. Later, when I realized my
sheep skin wasn't worth the price of paper towels, I went into OTR trucking
for a few years. Driving around those old Macks, with two million miles on
the hubometer, and the engine half in/half out of the cab, left me with a permanent
case of tinnitus. Also, the under the cab exhaust leaked and at the end of a run
I'd be covered in a film of half burned diesel and was coughing up black stuff.
This also transmitted noise and vibration into the cab. Buses were better.

Ya, I can't imagine sitting on top of a diesel engine would be any fun. I guess putting the motor under the cab had something to do with length restrictions, but still.

It was this, but the engine was half in/half out of the cab, if I remember right. Maybe those were the
International Harvesters. Organ harvesters, it was those things were. All steel suspension. Beat the
living daylights out of a man.
