This is our 4'×4' Moose Jaws portable layout that we set up at area train shows.
It is built on structural foamboard covered with plaster of paris and using various types of ballast and ground cover, as well as mosses and plastic floral sprays for trees.

The locomotive is a slow running MDC Climax, and the cars are a mix of Gould and MDC kits. The caboose is custom built and painted.

The layout runs flawlessly with minimal maintenance.

Yes. I cut a lot of the ties out of the track to give it a backwoods feel

This one shows the train traveling at typical maximum speed. The side dump just behind the locomotive was a gift from the Jade Fog Chemical Co.

I'm curious about the durability of the MDC Climax. Has that engine piled up a lot f miles at the shows?

It's been close to 5 years in service. I tear it down occasionally to inspect and lube the chassis.
The train typically runs solid for 3 or 4 hours each show without a break.

That really is exceptional. Amazed how you were able to
fit in siding and spurs in such a manner as does not crowd
the scene. The water tank and wind mill is quite the
contraption. What is you minimum radius?

Here is the layout sitting on it's edge in my foyer.

The trackplan and concept were inspired by a friend of mine from Accra, Ganha.

I am astonished to see an evolved HO track plan, including 22 inch curves in such a 4x4. Come to think of it, the EVRR has a
not dissimilar aspect. Both these layouts redefine what can be done in a small area. Outstanding.
