My COTW will be my new 1950s Mantua Metalworks bobber caboose. I purchased in an original box with some very incredible paperwork.
An original Repair receipt from 1955! Meaning this thing was older. It is likely from the same age as my Orange Tyco Sharknose. I got this from the same seller as the sharknose too, which to me confirms the legitimacy of the sharknose even more, as this is completely authentic. I think the seller just had some near mint pieces that had been stored away for years.

This thing has had a wheelset change out at the factory under warranty in 1955. And Blaxand there is no way it's photocopied. The paper is far too old, and the dates are stamped on. It's definitely from the 50s. And I wouldn't paint this thing for love nor money. It's another pristine Tyco.

I was kidding guys, because whenever there is something that is this old and pristine, everyone seems to think it is fake.

So did I.. It was cute BUT this is a forum where members are known to discuss pieces as they show up. Like all forums do.

I'm going to double-down this COTW....
Up first is this a Bachmann Great Northern blue flat car w. 2 log load.
2nd is a LifeLike Weyerhaeuser thrall-door box car.

I kinda figured that. I know enough to know what's real. My guess on my Tyco Sharknose is that it was done by hand at the factory, and it may have been some meticulous employee who painted like I do. Until another surfaces, we will never know...

Nice pieces! Take a ride on the Reading! Um, I'm still leaning towards the shark being a factory job from the earliest production run. Of all the paint schemes to go after, it just doesn't seem likely that someone would go after the plain pennant design. I've not seen it done elsewhere, but then Tyco stuff always surprises me. Just when I think I've seen it all...

And it's old and pristine because....you just KNOW it is, right?
No one is out to ruin anyone's day, Blax. I just tend to look at stuff from a collector's perspective. The point is, what can we learn to increase our knowledge about Tyco items, especially the old stuff? It's sites like this one that folks look to for information.
So if something pops up that no one has seen before, it's natural to question, and the questioning isn't necessarily bad. It's the way science used to be back in the old days

You are soo right Crown Vic. Years ago I joined a classic Chevy Club that I really enjoyed. I love the old Chevys that are correct in every detail including the under carriage. New details were being discovered, and some I didn't like. But I finally understood if I want the correct old Chevy, I must go forward with the experts of these cars. It's an education... However, I am not an expert on Tyco trains or 55 Chevies, but I have a fair amount of knowledge about both.

There is more than one like it in this scheme. I've seen two others in pictures.
Look in here. http://www.tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7544.
