One of the things about Tyco, growing up, and to this day, is that it stimulates the mind, brings out one's ingenuity. In the same breath, same could be said for Lego, which has a very large following throughout the ages.
So, both my kids are glued to their computers most the time, and I find computer games boring, and my wife is of on other tangents, so for my son's 16th birthday I wanted something the whole family could get drawn into and have fun with, but would be fairly simple to set up. AND, my eldest is coming down for the weekend having barely completed nursing school and has a great job that is keeping her at Run 8.
Well it worked great, for about 20 minutes. Then both cars appeared to have transmission failure in the sense that the axle gear shifted off center on both, rendering them helpless.
So I take the whole kit and kaboodle back to Hobby Lobby and ask for a refund, or should I attempted to secure the axle gears with a micro drop of Super Glue?
Not my first experience with AW, had similar issues within hours of use. As it was, two Tyco Semis came to the rescue and performed admirably to the delight of my two teens.

Great idea doing this Chops but I can't help noticing the attention given to the cell phone and the open computer screen in the last picture. Oh well...

Yes, Gary, occurred to me as well. That she was present was a big improvement, shortly after this picture was taken she put down the cell phone and joined her brother in racing the Tyco trucks, which functioned a lot better than the automobiles that came with the set.
In general, I pick my battles. I could shut off the cell phone account, and I do enforce no cell phones during dinner, but sometimes honey is better than vinegar, and sometimes vinegar is better.
Called the customer service number, no answer. So, I got to bundle the thing back to HL for a refund.
Next question: are there any slot car sets, in production, that the TF readership would recommend? Or is it all cheap Chinese junk? These people often louse it up with gears and axles, to wit, the common issue of split gears.

Went on line and Googled the question what were the best slot car sets and the answer came back as "Carera," of which I know zip, zero, nada. Placed an order, it has a life time warranty, somewhat closer to O scale in size, thus more rugged and well put together I will assume. Only a few dollars more.

Awesome pastime, Chops! Slot Cars certainly are amazing....and in regards to Carera, it is a good name, but I would be curious to see how they perform...

Carera says "Lifetime Warranty." That's a start.
