Tyco Pipe Unloader. Given to me as a joke, but a few years ago, it propelled my slide down the slipper slope of Tycomania. Seen here on the Tycomania VII layout.

My accessory this week is a silicone mold making kit. I have 2 projects that require parts that are no longer produced, so I decided to try and make more by making molds.
The parts I am needing are car ends for my Sampson streamliners. I have 2 good ones so I used those to make molds.
They turned out pretty good so now I have plenty to finish the construct.
I also needed some bolsters that are no longer made so I used the ones I have to make molds.
I got this kit at Hobby Lobby. The list price is $69.99, however, I found a coupon for 40% off so it only cost me $42.00.

Sweet. I might hire your services to make a few of those ends for me. If you are willing, that is. Evan

Pretty slick George. So is that "resin" that you pour in the mold?

Bought one of those resin kits. Unsuccessfully tried to re-cast a Silver Streak underframe for a reefer I wanted to work on (poor thing's probably ready to be kindling, lost all the hatches, parts of ladders, one of the ends, trucks.... If I wasn't so stubborn I'd make it into scrap). Still have the resin, need to buy some more silicone (Think that's what they included for the molds).
sim-al2 Also since they cut track maintaince the trains had huge trouble making over the railroad by the end 純那 yeah They did a Rock Island volountarily

Barry, yes it is a 2-part resin that sets up in less then 5 minutes. You have to let it "age" for a couple of days for it to reach full hardness.
Poke, Don't give up. Check out some of the videos on Youtube before you try it again and be sure to follow the instructions TO THE LETTER when you do it.

Pretty amazing piece, Mustang. I'd like to see inside that MR as well. Juice Jacks from plastic diesel bodies??? (Ordered one from eBay for 1.99).

Well, it refers to an article about kitbashing electric locomotives out of plastic shells on the MR shown beneath the crane by Mustang above. As I am wild about electrics, I ordered a back issue off eBay. Thanks for the heads up, tho.

Yeah.. you'll probably get yours before I have a chance to go into storage, find this box and pull the magazine. Now I am curious about the article myself.

This is a follow-up on the parts that I made using a silicone mold. First is the Sampson car ends. I finished one of my cars and used the ends that I made and they turned out pretty good.
While finishing this car, I discovered that the ends of the bodies are not square and the ends are a little too high where the couplers exit.

That Sampson car looks great! The end looks as though it is completely original to the car. What kind of paint did you use for the body? The lines turned out nice and crisp.

The grey is Floquil CSX and the yellow is Floquil ATSF. The red is a spray paint from Wal-Mart.
