Well, I decided to start doing some clean-up in the area around my PC tonight, and was sorting thru stacks of items by the window A/C unit, and opened up a nylon cassette tape holder, and lo and behold, there's my long-misplaced DCC'ed BL-2 I'd been looking for! Totally forgot I'd put it in that case, it wasn't 5 feet from me when sitting at my PC, but couldn't find it like a drop of water in an LA river...sheesh! Hidden in plain view. Well, I need to put it in those new plastic see-through cases I got from Wal-mart, so I can SEE it. LOL. that'll take care of that...if I don't bury THOSE, too. Organize....organize....OR----GAN----IZE. Needs to be my mantra this year. A place for everything, and NOT everything all over the place. Gotta keep working on it. Anyway, a bright spot in my dull evening tonight. Going to try to pick a spot every night, not too big, and just sort through stuff, and put tools away, get stuff better situated. Tired of falling and tripping over stuff I'm not using, and can't find what I WANT to use. Grrrr! Just a few feet at a time, slow but sure. That's my yardstick of success. Well, enough success for tonight, now off to the enginehouse and idle the firepit.

Great story Jerry! I took a little time and numbered each one of my boxes, then wrote down everything in each box. I copied this info into My Documents in a folder listed as "Tyco Boxes".
Makes it easy when I am wondering about a particular piece, I just open the documents page and look box to box until I find the piece
Have to remember to add "new purchases" or change if I move something to a different box. Sounds difficult, but it's really pretty simple.
Example, I have all of my -lighted & non lighted signs & poles in boxes 17 & 18. So I already know if I need a lighted piece I need to look in one of those 2 boxes. A peek in my documents and I find out in which of the 2 boxes the item is in.

While I have plenty of boxes labeled, I haven't yet put numbers on them. Seems like the next step for sure, hard to write down EVERYTHING on a small label. Much easier to put that into a database ( more time, sure ), but once done, easier to find I'll bet. Sounds like you've got your system working, I'm still tweaking mine. And that way, you don't have to change the label every time you decide to add/subtract from the boxes. I'll have to add that to my already long list of things to accomplish.
