Got up early this morning to get to the train show, as my club was also displaying the HO modular layout. I got up there about 8:15, 45 minutes before opening to the GP. On the way in a side door, I stopped at one vendor, and he was LOADED with Tyco stuff. Feast for the eyes. None particularly mint, but lots of good stuff....my first purchase of the day, he had a small box of Tyco Mantua diesel switchers, the T227s, a plain black and plain red body, with the chassis's in pieces. All the railings were there, I've just bought two runners off Ebay with no railings. $15 for this pair. I think the bodies were stripped of paint. Anyway, intact and usable.
I proceeded to the club layout after a few more look-overs on the way. They had trouble with the DCC operations, after awhile I found the power wires and track power wires both reversed on one booster. Then we still had a short, a club member finally found out his module had an auxiliary power booster shorted somewhere. Disconnected that, and it was up and running soon.

While they got the final kinks worked out, I went shopping again. Found an IHC GG1 for $25 and an IHC Alco C415 Santa Fe at same vendor, for $5. Some Hi-F trucks for 50 cents, a Tyco Santa Fe Observation shell for $1. The little deals started to add up. :) A Marx work caboose for $2, and a F7 Freedom Train diesel for $5. After more looking, back to the layout for some train running, I ran a couple of my EMD diesels with various consists, first was 5 Helium AHM cars, then I tried my just-finished wiring SD-35, and it wouldn't budge. Hmm. Back in the box. After a couple hours, my PA friend showed up, so we went shopping. Showed him some cheap N gauge stuff, he wound up buying some $7 per engines that ran, missing the roofs, but still. He had me pick up a set of 7 PRR passenger cars by Con-Cor in virginia I found, half the normal price at $75 for the set. He bought a Kato GG1 N gauge for $115 to pull the passenger cars. Also track, power packs ( TWO MRC's for $40 each a single and dual unit. Nice price! ). I went back to the Tyco guy, bought an early 4301 WITH the rare presidential seals that were recalled, he actually had THREE of these engines. Not perfect shape, but decent and should clean up. $15 for the one I bought. One sticker is peeling the other is intact mostly. He had a box of Trolley stuff , all for $20, I left it, but came back hour later after spotting an identical IHC Boeing LCV ? center-pivot for $20, he had TWO in this box with other trolley parts and bodies for that. So I came back, still there, and bought the whole flat. he had an E7? or E8 Chessie # 3042, not sure of the maker, for $15, looked like the type that has the flush-edge bodies, of which I have 6 or 7, no tank hang-down, just straight. Will see if they fit. And if it runs. I have Amtrak, B&O, and other bodies that might work on it. He said it was flywheel drive.
Found a NICE Mantua metal-side Baby Ruth car, $5. Another work caboose I wanted for my vacation train. Last thing I spent money on, I had to agonize over, there were so many things I wanted , but not enough money for all. Found a Tyco BN #342, E8 possibly? , and an Athearn NYC red and black Hustler, both combined for $20. But next table over was a sweet deal, another IHC Alco C415 that had a decoder installed already, AND it had B&O roadname ( my locale ), so after going back and forth....I chose the C415. Couldn't pass up the deal. I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted that Burlington Tyco, but....but....the decoder-equipped Alco won out finally. I took it back to the layout at the show, and hooked up my Bachmann Tri-level autorack with AMC Pacers osn it behind it, and ran it around. It was a bit balky at first, then smoothed out and ran with no hesitation. Even had the front light working off DCC. One bummer, I broke one hand-rail off trying to straighten it (doh!), but oh well. Maybe I can drill and reglue it back on.
rest of the afternoon was spent running my new Alco C415, one club member had a Marklin Blimp with PROPELLer behind it, and it would FLY. He had kids RUNNING over to our layout to see that thing run around! I'm definitely going to have to DCC a Tyco Turbo Train to give him some competition. He likes the Euro stuff. I'm starting to as well, his son had a train with flat cars with automobiles on them, enclosed in GLASS boxes. Apparently they do that over there with these expensive cars? Not sure which brand, but neat train! I think we had more Euro's running than American today. I'm going to have to DCC a General or something to even the action out. Overall, a great day, loads of bargains, more that I wish I could have brought home with me, but budget didn't allow. No UP Passengers of Tyco make were present. I DID look. Saw a BubbleYum boxcar for $25. my Marklin club member bought a Bazooka boxcar for $10, not bad! Prices are definitely down, and bargains abound here, too bad I couldn't afford to stuff my Jeep with them. Oh well. I'll post pictures later, this is just the run-up to the drool-fest. All for now,

Jerry

The pictures at last! Hot Tub Cam photos, hot off the hot tub. Here we go :

Above - The two T227's in the rear are Ebay buys, the lot in front is the show purchase lot. Both the show pieces have handrails, my others did not. Got 3 chassis's for the two bodies. $15 for the red and black ones with 3 chassis's. My first buy of the day, before the show even opened. I LOVE being a participating club member, get to buy things before the show even opens! Heh heh...

2nd trip by the first vendor with all the Tyco and Mantua, I noticed a flat of Bicentennial engines , he had 6, 3 of which had the rare correct Presidential seal. I just bought one, this Mantua Tyco, for $15. I didn't know they had a brass piece on top. Nice! All the horns and bells are on it, too.

above - These pilots I got at the Tyco_mantua vendor, same time as the T227's early on. Not sure what they fit, but you never know. I may need them ( or someone else on the Tyco Forum might ). The Hi-F trucks I got somewhere else, not sure if passenger or Hustler yet.

Above - various items I found around the show, Lionel Freedom engine all there , but in pieces, $5. Conrail GG1, dummy but an engine was included ( I need one for the wheelsets for a PRR version I'm repairing ), $25. Work caboose for my vacation train consist, I think I'll chop off the broken rear roof section and just shorten it flush. $2 and $3. The Santa Fe N gauge engine was $7, a runner in a box of others, only switcher, not sure of engine type, has a long low nose. Any ID help here?

Above - my two Alco C415's , the Santa Fe for $5 ( condition unknown ), the IHC B&O was $25 with DCC, the next picture I was running it pulling an autorack with AMC Pacers later. Woo-hoo!

above - Some autos I bought at the first Tyco_Mantua dealer, a 48 Hudson Commodore by Alloy Form, and a plastic Studebaker Hawk. 50 cents each. The Playart Mustang I bought at another vendor. I'm collecting playart cars as well as HO trains. This one has all 4 hubcaps still.

above - a 20 dollar box lot of trolley and light rail cars. I saw it at the Tyco_mantua vendor but didn't buy at first, after seeing an IHC Boeing car for $20 by itself somewhere else, I went back and bought this whole flat. Has two Boeings, a bunch of trolley bodies, and a few chassis's, some Bachmann, some ???. I want to get a Boeing flying around the track.

above - Speaking of flying...a fellow club member has this 40-year old Marklin blimp?, with working rear propeller, this thing would FLY around the track! Soon as he had it running, kids were spotting it and running over to see it. Unfortunately, another club member's wife lifted an access bridge at the wrong moment, and it flew off and hit the floor. Undamaged except a prop blade broke off, shame it happened. Now he has to find another propeller for it. The other club member offered to pay for it. We searched but never found the missing prop blade, it flew off and disappeared. But it was a REAL crowd-pleaser, especially the kids. I'll definitely have to DCC a Tyco Turbo train now. Can't let him have ALL the fun!

above - this was a Sunday flea market score, you can flip it either way, one way you can display golf balls ( with proper indentations ), the other the shelves are flat ( for train display ). Has dual wall hooks on top and bottom to reverse it. Nice! $5, missing the front glass panel, but I can replace that. Now I need a place to mount it.

Only other Saturday purchase is over in LOTW - April 10th, the C&O 3042 E8 I think. Screw holds the shell on up top behind the horns, not sure what make it is, no markings. HUGE can motor inside, with flywheel.

Well, that sums up my weekend so far, pretty good except I"m nearly broke until Thursday's payday. I'll be living off PBJ's and cheap meals 'til then. Hope you enjoyed my slideshow. Til next show, the hot tub is closed for pictures.

They're HO, DaCheez. These had a hand-made label saying AHM, says Made in Yugoslavia on the chassis bottoms. IHC had them, too. Been wanting some, but too expensive on Ebay. One I saw in an IHC box the guy wanted $20 for it. So for $20, I got the WHOLE lot. Looks like they're all there, just in pieces.

The cast metal pilots are for the Mantua 4-6-2 Pacific. I would have bought one from you but, I already got a replacement from Yardbird. The Hi=F trucks are most likely for the F-7 diesel.

The pilots are actually both plastic ones. Not metal.

Thanks for the info on the Hi-F trucks. Hard to tell for me yet what some things are. I have some Hi-F chassis's, I"ll use them for parts.
