I've noticed some PT motors are a gold or bronze color after looking at some parts motors online. Are these anything special, like Tender drive motors? Just curious.

never seen these before - must have been a few that only received them -or could it be that these were cleaned with something to give them a bronze appearance?

I've never seen a PT with WHITE plastic side brush holder, either. So, not sure if these were early, late, or special production pieces. Or tender drives, I've never seen one out of a tender, I do have a Royal Blue but haven't taken the tender apart to see the motor, I've heard they're slightly different. HOW different, I don't know.

Seems like I had a Chattanooga or Clementine 0-8-0 (standard train set ones ) that have the bronze motor housing.

The only place I have seen the bronzed blocks is in the tender-drive steamers, and that's where all yours are from. See the vertical posts sticking up out of the ends? That's where the swiveling dummy / tender trucks attached.
Not sure why this was done, and it's worth noting that not ALL tender-drives had these bronze motors. Some were blackened, others are standard zinc. More mysterious: the early tender-drives featured metal (not plastic!) tender chassis that were blackened bronze.
I don't actually have a large number of these to cross sample, so I can't speculate further. I've seen no direct benefit of difference between them. I'd have to research but perhaps there was better electrical conductivity given how the block is part of the circuit? The variants in the plastic pieces (armature cover, etc) have long been noted ever since the PT was developed and basically comes down to mix and match with, again, no discernible performance benefit.

Just finished watching and bidding on 10 Tyco auctions, one of those the gold tender motors. Got outbid, they sold for good dollars. I did get 5 lots, though, 3 of motors, 2 of the plastic motor mounting rings. Not a bad deal, loads of useful PT parts. Another auction had MU2 motors and PT large gears, that one also got away from me. Couldn't outbid fast enough at the end. had at least 30 of the large gears. Oh well. I'll take what I got. I did get some tender motors in one lot, with one gold hull and white plastic brush plate. Seller had 11 auctions with Tyco motors and pieces in them. Maybe someone else on here was bidding.
