Was gonna show this next LOTW But meh need to identify it
Do not know who made this brass boxcab loco But it was $10 at a local toy show today

underside

full side view

motor works but just doesn't quite make contact with rails
needs the screws & couplers as well
Were the couplers just screwed onto body or was there a cover to go on the couplers?

Looks like you might have an old Ken Kidder import from the late 50s/early 60s...quite a find for $10.

The worm drive is what leads me to believe it's a Kidder import. If you pull the shell, the motor should have two large, glaring motor brush screws near the top side of the motor.

Romcat already wants it But since it's possibly a rare loco I may just keep it

Careful with the meaning of "rare" that term gets used pretty loosley amongst model train people... :P My interest is solely because it's a non-MDC Box Cab. of which I have a couple.

Hey Buss :
I can only compare it to mine and yours is different. I have a early one made in Japan. Mine is a Aristo-Craft model. Our models are of the first demonstrator loco made. It went to the CNJ. All others had a door in front and back as well as sides. Our drives are simalar but not the same. Our doors are different. You rivet detail is finer. Your is a later model by the same manufacture in Japan. Proably Sakara. That is a guess.

Looking at that motor, it would be hard for me not to believe it's a Ken Kidder from the early 1960s. Nice find, I won't say rare for the same reasons pointed out before...how about "Fairly Uncommon"

uncommon? ok I like that & "rare" is used TOO much on stuff that really isn't rare Especially on Ebay!
What's odd is I gotta TILT it to have the motor run! Is there a ground/connection problem or what?

With that old spinner...I'm surprised it runs at all. They just weren't the best thing going at the time. Clean her up and see what happens.
