I ran my Purina train at last weekend's Open House, and used my Model Power Milkbone open hopper for the first time. I thought it needed a load, and have been looking for miniature dog bones, but haven't had much luck. While coming out of Toys R Us on Wednesday, I glanced over at the toy and candy dispensers by the exit, and saw the sign on one Dogbones. What?! Sho' 'nuf, it was miniature candy dogbones, hard sugar-type candy. Hmm. Ok, what the heck - I put in .75 cents, and got a big handful of multicolored simulated dogbones. Here's what it looks like in the HO hopper I have -

I ate the blue bones, I thought they'd detract from the look. I"m wondering how long this candy will hold up, and would it melt in high heat ( ie, summer inside an automobile ? ) I guess I could use a hair dryer on a few to see how they hold up. Maybe I can dip them in some sealer and make them hold up longer. Anyway, if anyone knows where to find plastic mini dogbones, let me know. I've tried searching on beads, but those get expensive for just a few. So this may work if I can find a source for them regularly, maybe Wegman's candy aisle has the dogbones in stock. I'll check next time I'm there.

"Bonz" are in many vending machines. And I can tell you right now that I wouldn't do what you're doing if you care about the car. As a father of a 6-year old, I've cleaned up many gooey sticky messes from those being left around. Not to mention the ants. Maybe the sealer would work, I don't know.

Too cool...I've had M&M loads last through the holidaze so you should be alright.
I made a crated load from the shocks salvaged from a remote control toy truck, I primed them then crated them with scale strip wood...

thanks for the tip. I wasn't sure how they'd hold up. I'm still hoping to find plastic ones, but so far, only expensive bead types. One reason I posted here, find some "expert" opinions, looks like I found an "experienced" one, usually far better! LOL. The search continues....

I had a pair of hoppers loaded with little chocolate easter eggs wrapped in coloured tinfoil. Those lasted for years until some carpenters and a bunch of stoners ate most of them. Then my cat made a mess out of one...that's when I threw the rest out.
I'll see if I can find some old pics.
