I picked up an entire Marklin layout today it is roughly 12x28 all DCC. My question is will other makes run on the Marklin DCC controllers or our they different with the 3rd rail.

Nope! The outer rails aren't insulated from each other.
With the Marklin system, the center studs are the power rails, and the running rails are ground.

Thanks Carl, not what I wanted to hear. Oh well, will see how much Marklin track brings on E-bay. I have a really nice layout anyway, going to be a pain to replace the track.

Marklin runs on 30v AC whereas most others run on 12-18v DC. As pointed out, Marklin runs on center stud pickup, this simplifies wiring but makes it the exclusive domain of Marklin. Nothing else will run on it. HOWEVER---many DC locos can be made to run on it by simply adding a pickup shoe, there are folks in Marklin circles who do this regularly. Their equipment cannot run on DC track because it is not insulated for 2 rail pickup, creating a dead short when placed on 2 rail systems.
