Just wondering if anyone knows whether a mass-market EP-5 was ever produced in HO scale in plastic and if not, why? There are plenty of them in O scale, but other than Fleischmann, Marklin, or High-Priced brass, there doesn't seem to be any such thing in HO, either rare or non-existent. The one below is a fancy Overland brass version.

I saw one that was custom built at a train show. The person had a Riverossie GG1 with a broken shell. The took the chassie and pantographs from that. To make the shell the modified two Athearn F7. Used the front half of each. Then cut and filled the roof to match properly. The pantographs were used from the GG1 on the newly built shell. It actually looked very convincing.

If you're not specifically looking for an EP5 I know that Lionel produced a Rectifier engine in various road names. I've seen PRR and Virginian out there. I believe they date back to roughly 1956 as the first year they got into HO scale (1956) they outsourced many of their models to Athearn and Rivarossi. There is a Lionel Rectifier you can find that has the body made by Lionel but the internals are all Athearn HiFi.

Lionel's rectifier was a bad copy of e PRR E-33. Made to fit a GP7 chassis.
