And for myself as well hehe!
Rediscovered my brown box Chatt over Christmas at my parents house and got it out for my son. He is enjoyoing as much as I hoped he would so I was thinking of getting a second set to play with as well.
My question, is there a favorite model among TYCO collectors/enthusiast as far as the better models regarding train performance and or quality. I know theyre all still Tyco in the end but was lookin for some advice for a new set to put together. any advice appreciated,
-Greg

The quality is hit-or-miss as far as operations go, as the build quality could be horrendous, or the engine could last for years. You're taking a chance on ANY Tyco engine, steam or diesel. Basically it comes down to whether you like a certain roadname, a diesel or steam, and body style. Some, like the GP20, the engine is way harder to get out of the body than others, and can break the bracket doing so if you need to do maintenance. An F7 would be easier to work on. But it comes down to what you want, really. Favorite collectibles include the one-year production Golden Eagle 630, the GG1 with pantographs, the sharknose diesel, the little diesel 4-wheel shunters , etc. The most common engines are Santa Fe and Union Pacific. Some other roadnames like New Hampshire are less common, thus sought out more (by some ). again, if you like local roadnames, you may prefer Burlington to New York Central. Just buy what YOU like, and you'll be happier in the long run.

THanks much AMC & micro, appreciate the valuable information to help us get started back into HO. A lot of good names there to look at so hopefully i can locate something good fairly quick to keep us busy for the rest of the dreaded winter!
